SOURCE: Fridge & freezer no longer cold

if you only removed the ice you can see without removing the back panel then you need more defrost time yes. but the frost will come back, something in the defrost system has failed. so the answer is yes to both questions off for longer and something more serious too.

SOURCE: My freezer's defrost systems runs constantly

i dont think so i would look at the compressor kicking out on thermal overload or a faulty thermostat thermostats have two settings cut in cut out your cut in could be bad and not turning the compressor on till the temp reaches melting temps now if your hearing a click buzz then you need to look at the compressor and make sure the compressor fan is running but its not a defrost promblem

SOURCE: auto defrost is not working on my zanussi ice free fridge /freezer

You have a defrost problem. It means you have 3 parts that can be involve ( timer, defrost thermostat, element) most of the time it's the timer. Hope it was helpful. :)

SOURCE: ice at the bottom of freezer

If the tube or channel is clogged or obstructed, the water backs up and leaks into the inside of the refrigerator compartment. Then the water builds up at the bottom, inside of the refrigerator. When the water has built up for a time it may spill out of the front of the door opening. To fix this problem, clear the drain tube or channel and allow the defrost water to flow down to the drain pan.

The ice and water-dispensing system of your refrigerator is quite complex. Many components work together to provide the ice and water. Aside from a simple problem of a leaky water tube or a jammed ice chute, most other components are not user serviceable. We suggest that you contact a qualified appliance repair technician for such repairs.

How do you know your Bosch Fridge Freezer needs defrosting?

Most home refrigerators share the same cooling coil for both compartments so in order to defrost the freezer that coil has to be disabled by pulling the plug. You havent mentioned the brand of refrigerator that you own but i am guessing that you have an automatic defrost. Can you hear a fan running inside the freezer compartment when the door is closed and the compressor in the back is running? If so your freezer will automatically defrost. The ice you probably see collects on the shelving or inside walls. Generally you can take the plastic handle of a screwdriver and gently tap the ice to get it to crack and fall off. Take care not to hit cold plastic parts or panels, they may crack or break. Otherwise I would get the model of the refrigerator and go to the manufacturers web site and post your question to get a positive answer. Good luck!

Had a fridge freezer in garage. Just found that

more than likely the defroster inside the freezer has gone bad. This defroster is located in the space between the fridge and freezer and activates to defrost the freezer and stop build up of ice in the freezer.. If it is bad the freezer will not keep the fridge nor freezer cold.

Fridge/Freezer combo - Freezer working fine but fridge is not

There is a duct between the freezer and refrigerator. Sometimes this duct blocks off with ice and won't allow airflow. Open your refrigerator door and check for air flow if there is none the duct needs to be defrosted. turn off freezer/ refrigerator and defrost.
