14 blinks to Sony Brand LCDs indicates a 'Backend error'. It means that, the main board to this TV should be checked for fault. Our $2700 less than 3 year old Sony LCD KDL-40XBR5 did the same thing 2 weeks ago. Sony was anything but helpful. They said to take it to a repair shop or we could send them $550 and they would replace it with a $800 set. Repairman says that it is a panel and the part has been discontinued by Sony. The 46" sets had the same problem and were recalled but not the 40" screen. We stopped on the way home and purchased a 40"

I'd say about the blinking to a black screen would be your cable provider. As for the stripes that means that your board panels can be going bad, you can try updating the firmware of the TV to help but if that doesn't work you're getting very close to full failure on the TV.

I have a Sony Bravia model KDL-46s5100 that had the same problem. All HDMI ports stopped working. I don't know why this works but unplug the TV for about 30 sec, then plug it back in and hold down the power button on the tv for 10 seconds. Like I said I don't know why this works but it worked for me. Good luck.
