Adding memory, new total not recognized: Originally had a 512mb stick in slot #1, (under the keyboard) with slot #2 empty. I bought a 1GB stick of Crucial memory using their online memory scanner and their recomendations. I put the 1GB stick in slot #2. My computer should now be seeing a total of 1536MB of memory but is only seeing 1024MB. I tried swapping the sticks (putting the 1GB stick in slot #1 under the keyboard and putting the original 512MB stick in the #2 slot). The computer still only sees a total of 1024MB.The computer tech manual says that the total can be 2GB and that each slot can take up to 1GB, but it doesn't say both slots have to be holding the same size sticks. Ram should always be paired. Same type, speed and size in each slot. You may have 1 SIMM/DIMM/DDR that has 2 sides of chips and the other with 1 which will do exactly what you state. RAM reads across the chips simultaneously. So if you have a different one in each slot it can go bonkers and do goofy stuff on you.
