Power surge After power surge machine is dead

Put your hand over the rear machine vent when it is turned on - if no air is felt the motor is not running. The surge may have toasted it and some other stuff if you have an electronic control board. Hopefully you have a simpler no frills machine without the fancy electronics, and it is just the motor that is dead.

I have had several different makes of clock radios and all said that it was battery back up for power failure
none worked and all settings had to be redone
power surges do not trip breakers as they are in effect a fuse to prevent damage to the wiring in a dead short situation or when a unit fails
even surge protectors will still pass power after a surge but will no longer protect against another surge

The surge could have taken out the power transformer.

Only reset is to unplug it. Are you sure you have power at the outlet? If you have 120V at the outlet the power surge may have blown the controller, not a cheap fix :(

Probably fried. Sounds like more of a power surge than a paper jam.

Canon might cover this machine as some times they will cover it as its only be 13 months depending what country you are in.

well the MP830 is a very good product and i would think about keeping it. I would maybe look at other new machines like mx850 and see if its worth buy a new one.

Where abouts are you in the world as can repair your machine if you are in the uk.

power surges will damage the machine depending how much damage it has done, it could off blown main board, psu, cartridges, printhead. So it could be worth buying a new machine.

If you are looking new machine look at the mx850.

try replacing the power source, post some specs on the power source and i can help you find the correct replacement

hi i am a certified Canon repair tech for this printer. these machines are prone to power faluire due to power surges. this machine uses very low DC voltages so when you have even a small AC power surge the eletrictronics in this printer get over charged and they blow. most of the Canon machines that i have seen with no power have been the main logic board at fault not the power supply. if the machines are under 13 months old they are still covered under warrenty. you can call Canon at 1-800-OK-CANON and they will locate a repair center near you. hope this helps.
