This TV has a vertical volume wheel, and the sound was fine until a few weeks ago, when I unhooked the VCR from it (the VCR wouldn't eject a videocassette tape). Maybe this was a coincidence, or maybe I inadvertently loosened some internal wires when moving the TV a little bit. How can I get the sound back? It's extremely faint now! Thanks.

This set is very popular for the capacitors to dry upa and go bad in the main SMPS as well as the switching power supply. If you have no know how on how to test capacitors or solid state electronics please take the set into a repair shop for an estimate

yes i agree with pavin but let the tech know that you know is a cold solder or varius cold solder, that will help you in the price of the repair, you can say this to him,"look at the circuit board closely for cracked solder joints. Resoldering any bad joints will solve the problems"...good luck

What you're describing is common when the center LED has failed / gone out. If you're really good at taking a unit like this apart and putting it back together - and not too bad with a solder stick you could attempt this one yourself... It is a pretty intensive repair but not difficult for a good shop just time consuming. The part isn't too expensive either, just an infared LED... In fact, we've run a bit short on stock once in awhile and bought one of the off the shelf versions from Radio Shack which worked just fine. Good Luck Bill

The remote has an input button that will switch it to video mode. Most stores sell the rca / ge replacement remotes.

tap it on its side then try to turn it on and see if it stays on if it does bad solder connections
