Acer travelmate 2440 theres power only the screen its pure black.

Do you mean that the laptop screen isn't displaying anything and is just a black screen? If so you could try connecting an external VGA monitor to see whether it's the laptop LCD/inverter that is at fault or if there's something more serious going on with the graphics card.

plug into an external monitor and boot up again. Do you see anything on the external monitor? do you see hard disk light? power light? post back what you find.

Still using an external monitor because the screen on the laptop it out of services. Try to found the same screen on the internet an buy it. Remenber a new sceen is one of the most espensive part.

some display settings are not compatible with some monitors/lcd displays...
check before u make any changes to the display properties....
some changes done forcebly will permanently damage ur monitor beyond repair....
try to install the VGA driver software of the monitor/notebooks may not require andy drivers as OS would have installed it by default...
also dont make any changes to the refresh rates in the display properties as that also may damage ur monitor...
possible use the chekbox that says "Dont display frequency rates that are not compatible with the system"

If the backlight is coming on its not the inverter, check the ribbon cable for the screen itself, If its been opened and closed alot maybe be time to replace the screen. Check connections first, go from there.

Change the settings from the display settings panel. (Right click on the desktop and go to display settings)
You should see 2 monitors graphically represented there. 
You can make the monitor that is greyed out active by right clicking on the monitor, and selecting active.

Black uses much less power. It's a device for automation, so you really should not lavish the watts and attention on it unless it has to perform something truly novel.

If you really want to use the monitor though, you can use the function-key combination used to switch the display between internal and external displays.

Welcome to Vista. Windows Vista is automatically set up to power down after you have left it alone for too long. If you press the power button everything should be fine. Otherwise tell me what happens.
