SOURCE: Unable to format hard disk.

ady,
You did not mention what steps you have tried. and what the problem occurs when you try to format. It also depends which OS you are using.

There is a solution very easy to use. If you have Win98 or older version then try to boot with command prompt only aund then run FDISK. Using FDISK delete all partition and create new partions, then try to format and install your OS.

For Boot Disk you can surf/download from BootDisk (click here)

If you want detail help, please post your problem in details.

Thanks
Iqbal

SOURCE: SMART Failure Predicted on Hard Disk 4: Hitachi-(S1)-ToshibLaptop

that will be expensive. i just went to microcenter and asked them, they said many hundreds of dollars just to look at it, then like 1600 for the cheapest recovery...

I would

1. stop using it immediately. (after an error like that, you may have only minutes of life left on it)
2. get a 25 dollar external enclosure to put the drive into. If it's IDE make sure you get an IDE enclosure, if SATA, get SATA compat. external enclosure.
3. get another computer, o rgo to a friends house, etc, and try to read your data on their computer after plugging in your hard drive inside the external enclosure.
4. if you can see it, rush like mad to copy the data thats important to your friends computer before the drive is 100% dead.

microcenter and similar stores have external hard drives at $129 dollars for a terabyte. BUY ONE! :-)

Good luck

PS: rumors go around that if you freeze the hard drive in your freezer for an hour, it helps get the data off, dont know if this is in fact true. Once the drive is dead, it's dead. You cant do much about it unless youre willing to part with a lot of money.

SOURCE: CANT FORMAT THE HARD DRIVE (Toshiba Satellite L100)

You need to replace the drive. You can get one immediately from Best Buy or even Wal-Mart. If you can wait a day or two you can get a really good deal at newegg.com.

It could also be a software problem but I doubt it's worth the effort of trying to fix it via that route. Replacement drives are really cheap right now.

If you have any other questions please feel free to ask and don't forget to rate.

Thanks!

SOURCE: disk read error occured

If not give it a go and do a repair if needed again!

1- You may have a corrupt MBR (master boot record)!! You will need to reformat and do Fdisk /mbr to delete the master boot record!! Save all data first as this will not allow you to access any of your data as all file location addresses are located in the MBR!!

2 - Your harddrive may have a bad sector get a zerofill tool(low level formatting tool)!! This will rewrite you HD's sectors putting them back to factory spec's!! Maxtors is called Maxblast you can get it from thier site!!

3- or it could be a defective drive, but most read errors are due ot corrupt MBR or a bad sector!!

SOURCE: I can not install Windows on my Compaq Evo N620c

The quickest solution here would be to put the hard drive into a computer that has Windows already running, and format it through the operating system itself. I've run into this problem a few times, and when another computer wasn't available I would use a Linux boot disk to clear out all my partition tables, then I would load up with Windows XP and tell it to write a new NTFS partition. Do NOT select the 'quick format' option, you'll have to wait through the long one.

Error windows was unable to complete the format

I experienced the same problem (my USB device ). try these steps:
1. Start, Control Panel,
2. Performance and Maintenance,
3. Administrative Tools,
4. Computer Management,
5. Disk Management,
6. Find the USB drive (usually the last storage device before the optical drive),
7. Click on the USB drive,
8. Right click on it and you will see the options (New Partition or Format)
9. Follow the instruction (I chose FAT32), but please do NOT chose Quick Format.

A disk read error occurred, press ctrl+alt+del is showing when I open my laptop, please help...iTS the same problem even if i press ctrl+alt+del. thanks!

1. It is possible that your hard drive is faulty and have bad sectors or unable to read due to cable error or motherboard.
2. Try to re-seat the hard disk and if that doesn't work go to repair shop and get it checked, if problem is found ask them to recover the data if you need it and if possible.
3. Get a new hard drive.

My segate 300Gb HDD keeps asking to format it when i recently pluged it into a new computer to transfer data to and it said that the driver didnt install correctly. since then it keeps asking to forma

I'm assuming that this was functioning at one point. If you are using Windows, Right click on my computer and click "Manage" Then go to disk management? Does it see the drive at all. If so, has a letter been assigned? It is possible that the operating system will show the drive even if it can't read the data. Look to see what file system and how it sees the disk having been partitioned. It is possible that your partition table has been corrupted. This can possibly be fixed using a tool like disk doctor or fdisk.

If, on the other hand, the drive is also making funny noises, you may have a mechanical failure on the drive.

Unable to format the cruser pendrive

Far too often these little things have an almost invisible read/write protect button on them. Look carefully, over the entire surface of the USB Flash Drive. You might have this switch turned to Write Protect, which means there is nothing you can do, until you turn it the other way, and allow the device to be written to.

Cheers!
