How to connect converter box, analog tv, and dvd/vcr
I have a Magnovox video cassette & dvd player combo, model # DV200MW8. I have an RCA analog TV with 1 cable port in the back and 3 RCA jacks ports. Previously, my Maganavox VCR/DVD player was connected to the TV from 3 RCA jacks into the back of the TV from the back of the VCR/DVD player. The antenna cable from the rabbit ears ran into the single cable port in the back of the TV. Now, the antenna cable from the rabbit ears runs into the In From Antenna port in the back of my converter box, and the 3 RCA cables run from the back of the converter box into the back of the TV. This is how I had to do the digital conversion and it works fine. The problem is, how do I now connect the DVD/VCR? There is no cable port in the back of the DVD/VCR--input or output--so I can't run a coaxial cable from the DVD/VCR into the (now) open cable port on the back of the TV.

You now connect the cable and the combo directly to the tv by using different connections: the cable goes in the antenna entry and the combo is connected to the tv with a 3-headed RCA cable - with heads of Yellow, Red and White.
Then when you want to see one or the other you just select the appropriate source from the tv's menu using the Source/square with arrow in it/AV or whatever is called in your model button on the remote.
All you need is A/V cable. These are yellow, white, and red. If you have an old model TV that doesn't have these, you can get an RF modulator from any electronics store, which will enable you to connect the DVD/VCR combo.
omg , haven't heard the word VCR in decade.
are you kidding? seems not.,
what's next 8track tapes? and Beatles? LOL ! "hard days night?"

please say what you are up to the job.?
are you trying to burn VHS tape to DVD? nah.... that be me 16 years ago.... then gave all my VHS away at work. hated VHS, ugly mess.
i see, says the blind man!
you need a switch box.
yes, they still sell them like on ebay but not walfart.
I would need your exact model # to get very specific, but in general:
The "External tuner" will need to come from your TV or a cable/sat box, generally. If your TV has a Video OUT or a Monitor OUT (most television don't), you can hook a yellow AV/RCA video cable from the TV to the Magnavox. You will also need to hook a red/white audio cable from the Audio OUT of your TV to the Magnavox.
Your TV probably doesn't have a Video OUT, so you will need to buy a box. A digital cable box for your cable service would be the best investment. Alternatively, if you can find a digital-to-analog converter box (but these are iffy). Once you have one of these box types, you will need to hook a red, white, and yellow AV/RCA cable from the video/audio OUT of the box to an available video/audio in on your television.
Once your connections are correct, the general rule with tuner-less recorders is: If you can see the channel that you want to record on the television screen, then you will be able to record it.
One final note about Feb 17, 2009: Thanks to Congress, the digital transition date was moved to June 12, 2009 - many areas have already switched, but there is at least a chance that you are in an area that hasn't switched yet.
Let me know the exact model # of your television, and I can tell you if it has a video/monitor out - or, let me know what type of box you decide to buy.
Connect your rabbit ears to the Insignia. Connect the Insignia to the antenna input on the "cvd/vcr combo". Now turn on the television to show the "cvd/vcr combo".
The Insignia simply goes between your antenna and your television. In your case you also have a vcr so if you want the VCR to be able to play and record digital stations you will need the Insignia between the vcr and the antenna.
Yes you can first connect the converter box to the antenna first. Next hook the tv out on converter box to vcr in on vcr. Next hook the vcr out to the tv in and watch vcr and converter box on channel 3 sometimes channel 4.on the actual tv and of course change channels with converter box remote. For dvd player hook it straight to tv with red, white, and yellow cables that come with your dvd player. Then to watch dvd player if it's hooked up that way you have to put your tv on a input like video 1 or input 1. This can be done by using the tv remote and looking for a button that says tv/video or input or source button. This is some common names for that button on tv remotes.
your model is "tuner free" that means it does not have the RF screw in connector. Buy one that has a tuner, preferably both ATSC(USA digital) and NTSC(USA analog)
