Ge profile washing machine overflow

Our washer is about 3 years old and won't stop filling with water. We have removed the front cover of the washer and removed the tube from the air dome and blew into the tube and the washer stopped filling and started agitating, so we don't think it is the pressure switch but we are not sure what else to check.
Another thing is that when the washer drains, the air dome does not. We thought we should get the water out of the air dome and try again, but not sure how to do that. Is it correct that the air dome should drain when the washer tub does? What would be causing the air dome not to drain and how can we drain it?

Check that the spigot where the Air Dome connects is also clean, it may be full of gunk so the dome gets no water/air pressure...

SOURCE: Pressure Switch or Air dome?

Does it stop filling when you hit Start/pause or do you have to shut off water supply? The air dome is the black rubber piece that is clamped to the pump housing. Usually i find that clogged not letting the pressure sw operate proper. I belive the switch has 4 wires. It has 2 contacts, one closes with a small amount of water visible in tub, hi contacts close with water much higher - even filling bottom of boot.

SOURCE: Spin and Agitate problem on GE Profile Prodigy WPSE4200A

This machine uses an electric water pump. I would check to motor. Remove the front panel and operate the machine to see if the motor is working. Check this by listening to the motor and watching the belt. If you hear the motor but the belt does'nt move then there may be a problem with the pulley or motor clutch assy.

As far as not draining or pumping water ? Check the wiring from the pump to the control panel. If these wires are alright then i suspect the pump.

SOURCE: GE Washer WHDRR418E1WW overflows the tube. Yikes.

A washer that over flows in the fill cycle sounds like a faulty pressure switch. Part # WH12X10069 and 10 on this diagram. If it overfills the tub when the washer is off it's a faulty water valve. Best of luck Ryan

SOURCE: GE washer won't agitate

I had this same problem with our GE top load washer.  I just needed to pull harder.  (Note: The agitator is held in place by about a dozen L-shaped clips in a ring around the agitator's base that will release more as you pull harder on the agitator.)  Everything from the base below the large fins on up comes out together.  Grab the shaft above the fins and pull slowly and hard. I had to take the entire tub out, lay it on the porch, put my feet inside of it, and pull the agitator assembly out.  I wasn't able to pull it out while it was still in the washer.  BE CAREFUL! DON'T **** IT OUT; that might injure your back; just pull out slowly and as hard as you can without hurting yourself.  I was able to get it out successfully, but I am currently stuck at removing the bell below the agitator.  Good luck!

I see this pretty regular. You have a bad transmission. This is very common with the older GE's. To replace the transmission will run around $340 / $400. Not sure about your area. Just be glad you got this much use out of it, you are one of the very few that have. From 1998 till 2007 I owned my on repair company where I did GE's warranty work in my area for them. During that time period. When I found a GE washer under warranty doing what you are describing. GE would warranty the whole machine. They would have me destroy the machine after I would deliver the customer a band new one. GE knows they had a bad transmission and it cost them a lot of money. It was cheaper for them to replace the washer than have me repair it. The transmission list price was $298.00 back then. A word of advice, when you replace it. Buy a Whirlpool, Kenmore, Maytag. These brands hold up the best. I have the least service calls for Whirlpool and Kenmore. Both are made by the same people. Kenmore is made for Sears. Good Luck.

My old GE Profile top loading washer is overflowing during the fill cycle...It moves into agitation OK but doesn't stop the fill. I have to manually turn off the water during the fill. Fill switch works...

loosen the back screws and push the top forward, its got clips in front that just shift in, then you mast carefully lift the top due to the wires and vacuum pipe that control the level, just unplug the supply

Myn washer always overflowes as it filling it wont

This is usually the pressure switch. Also you could check the water inlet valve if water is still flowing in the machine after it stops. There are free videos on testing these components at www.appliancehelponline.com/servicemanual.html
You can also punch in your model # for diagrams

Washing machine does NOT stop filling w/ water!

If the m/c keeps filling, where is the water going ??? if the m/c doesnt reach the required water level it will not start, check the drain hose at the back, make sure its at least 24" above floor level, if it lower then it will just empty as quick as you fill it on gravity.

Water doesn't stop filling tub in washer, water overflows everywhere. washer doesn't wash on super/large loads and doesn't spin on any loads. washer is only 2 years old

water not stopping filling is the pressure switch its a long thin tube that goes from the bottom of drum to the front top about the thickness of a pencil this needs taking off clearing through and checking for pin holes then refitting this should solve water problem

Another flood. GE washer

The water sound is normal. There is a solution in the top of inner tub for balance. Is it overflowing...as in not stopping the fill cycle? If so check to make sure small hose is still attached to outer tu at bottom left front. This dome that it connects to can become filled with scum and causes the unit to not know that it's full. This causes flooding. You can try removing hose and cleaning out with thin wire. Sometime only fix is to replace outer tub. Again, this is only if overflowing!!
Another possibility is a bad break allowing outer tub to spin in agitation. This throws water up over sides of tub. Monitor unit when agitating to see if outer tub picks up speed and starts to spin. It is normal for it to index.
