Remove the face, and trimring plastic. There are slots on either side that you put the Alpine unlocking keys into (came with your headunit new) then slide the chassis out. If you don't have keys - you can use a small allen wrench - or buy them at best buy etc. A local alpine dealer will probably let you borrow his keys as a good business practice.

The best way would be to add the Alpine optional proprietary iPod connection cable. This will give you full control of the iPod from the radio. Your CDA-9885 uses the KCE-422i optional cable.
The cheapest way (with lower quality audio) would be to use a generic FM modulator with a mini-jack input. The Scosche FMMOD01 shown here is sold in numerous stores from $17 - $50. Another downside with this method is that you have no control of the iPod from your head unit. But, hey! It works.
I had the same problem. I got it resolved by making the MIX OFF. Just press the button number 5 to make the MIX (Random Play)ON/OFF. After the search you can set the MIX to ON. However set the MIX to off before you start any search every time.
If you're pressing on the "rotary encoder", then it's you.
But if you're not and instead you're just turning it without pressing, you may have a defective unit. Try literally pulling on the thing while turning it. If that avoids triggering the other functions then either you'll have to get used to being gentle, or you need to take it back or send it to Alpine (again, probably just the front faceplate unit needs work...not the whole radio).
Disconnect whatever is attached to the BLUE wire at the back of the Alpine deck. Re-connect it to the BLUE/WHITE wire instead. This should solve your problem.
