I have a Kenmore dryer model # 96580110 and the heat won't come on when it is operating

Your Heating element may have burned out. Repair clinic has some good repair videos, and a parts department. Sears parts direct is also another source for parts.

Hi Robert.

Thanks for the pics. I operate in UK and color codes here are different.
From what I can see the wiring in your picture does not match the US standard either.
The thermal fuse for example should have two blue terminals, not red and blue. The thermal fuse wires goes on one side to start, and on the other to the drive motor through the broken belt switch (if present).
The wiring at the blower must be revised and done again.

Here a service manual covering Kenmore 70 series dryers.

There is a wiring diagram at page 25.

Here a picture showing correct wiring: http://www.applianceblog.com/mainforums/attachments/sears-kenmore/3298d1196129125-kenmore-dryer-model-110-86870100-wont-heat-ldrwp-checkpoints.jpg

About the red and yellow cable, the only red yellow wire in the diagram operates the switch for the guard function. The wire becomes hot and powers the motor when the guard switch is closed.

Hi,

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

Sears Kenmore 08980800 Stops after 10 minutes of operation.

Sounds like the motor may be getting hot and kicking out on the motor overload switch. When it cools down it will reset.

Kenmore dryer doesnt heat

Nothing you did wrong! Probably needs a new heating element. Prices vary by model. Call Sears/Kenmore parts center nearest you. Tell 'em you need a heat element for your dryer. Be sure to provide your dryer's model number.

Unplug your appliance first before attempting repairs! Safety first and always!
