I think what you mean is that you want o unlock it. This a CDMA phone, but there is also an S2 Sprint model which have a min-SIM card (the Samsung SPH-D710). But then again I'm not sure that it can be unlock. One way would be to contact Sprint, they will ask you for an ESN (located under the battery). To flash any firmware you need the firmware and Odin, this is a tool to flash firmware to Samsung devices. But that won't unlock your device.
I recommend that if possible, visit a Metro PCS store or Kiosk, maybe they can sell you a mini-SIM card and unlock it for you. Metro PCS use CDMA technology as Sprint and Verizon, but Metro PCS is now accepting GSM phones. Best of luck.
Flash or Flashing--Technically, flashing refers to the overwriting or
re-writing of the phone's firmware. There are many phones which can be
flashed to cricket with all features working. On most CDMA phones,
programming the phone can be done "over the air" by dialing a special
code, usually *228 or some variation. Colloquially speaking, flashing
can also loosely mean making a phone from one carrier work on another
carrier. The easy way to tell the difference is that if your phone does
NOT take a SIM card, then it is probably CDMA.
To flash a phone
to cricket you will be overwriting th phones firmware. The firmware is
software in the phone that doesn't change when you turn it off, and it
cannot be deleted unless it is overwritten, hence flashed. It requires
specific files called prl files.PRL or PRL File--Short for Preferred
Roaming List--A small text file containing instructions for how a phone
connects to a specific network's radio towers It is usually loaded by
connecting the phone to a computer to overwrite its data. There are a
few tools used such as a pst PST--Short for Phone Service Tool or
Tools--Special software used by phone manufacturers to program their
phones. And also a monster file - -"Monster File"/"Monster Pack", ROM,
or "Kitchen"--System software that is needed to flash a phone.
In
almost all case you will need to access the phones service programming
menu- - -Service Programming Menu--A special menu typically hidden from
the primary User Interface that allows for "deep programming" of a
phone. You will also need access to msl and spc codes specific to the
device you are flashing.MSL/SPC--Special six-digit codes needed to
access service programming features on the phone. Access to the service
programming menu can be disabled in a phone's firmware.
Depending
on your phone, it may require extra steps to unlock or get WAP and MMS
working. That is why you need the msl/spc codes to allow deep
programming to unlock these features. Not all phones will be capable to
access wap or send and receive mms.
Ringtones generally have to
be prepaid using a flex bucket. It is best to download ringtones before
you flash your phone to cricket since they have a limited selection of
ringtones and wallpapers. There are cases were flashed phones will not be
able to download ringtones directly from cricket.
The details
outlined above will not only work with cricket but you can also flash
phones to metro pcs using the information provided above. It is best to
do all your research before purchasing your phone to ensure that the
cell phone you are interested in can be flashed to cricket or metro PCs
CDMA phones do not have unlock codes whereby they can be unlocked to use on another network. Instead, they must be 'flashed' which means they must be re-programmed for a specific cellular provider.
To re-program a CDMA phone, you'll need the correct USB cable (to attach the phone to the PC) and you'll need the correct program for the cellular network you want to flash the phone to.
As you didn't include the name of the Indonesian cellular company, I'm unable to provide further information about the program you'll need. (To be honest, I'm not even sure there is a program available to flash the phone. Specifically, before you attempt to flash the phone, I'd make sure that the radio frequencies used by the carrier in Indonesia are the same as the ones used by Verizon in the US.)
The frequencies in the SCH-U960 are CDMA 800MHz (or 850MHz) and 1900MHz.
Keep in mind that even if you successfully flash the phone to the Indonesian network some of the functions still may not work, like the Internet, MMS or SMS due to the internal frequencies being different from the US to Indonesia.
And, once you flash the phone from Verizon to another network you cannot flash it back.
Metroflashing is for VOICE service only, and Verizon's software is not designed for use on Metro's network. In other words, if you don't know how to get into the phone's programming, you cannot set up this phone's user name and password to get on to Metro's data services using the handset. You can, however, use the phone as a dial-up modem for your PC.
Once Metro can come up with a way to access the user name and password of the phone's software, they will then let you get data services (e.g. picture messaging, internet, etc...) on your phone.
When you flashing ROM don't forget about radio. Find which ROM exectly you have and then you must find correct radio version as well, however if an professional did a cook it should be included, check your RUU file.
as long as you have a data plan there is no reason why you shouldnt have all the features available to you. i also have a sprint samsung instinct that i unlocked myself and every option works the same as it normally would. did you unlock this phone or did someone do it for you?
am unable to send SMS messages?
As a set limitation to the phone's design, if the SMS Inbox is consumed, the phone's alternative is to send as an MMS.
If a customer is calling and their phone is sending SMS messages as MMS messages, please advise them that they may have an excessive amount of SMS messages in their inbox. Advise them that deleting some or all of these messages should correct the problem. To delete messages:
