- there is NO trash can on any iPad.
however you can empty some hidden cache etc. and free space by making a hard shut-off.
To turn off your iPad, first press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on the top-right corner of your iPad. After a few seconds, the red "slide to power off" slider will appear. Simply swipe it to the right and your iPad will power off.
-wait about 20seconds (until the dim-lighted spinning wheel disappears) and turn it on again

SOURCE: how to empty trash in

In general, an iPad doesn't have a trash at all. Since you don't have access to the file system, files cannot be user-modified or deleted, so a trash is not necessary. Further, apps will generaly take care of their own cache and data usage, so user interventions doesn't generally occur. If you are talking about mail, try using the usual delete functions while navigating the Trash folder and you should permanently delete the message.
Hope this helps, Alistair

When you hold down on the app icon and it shakes with a little x in the left corner, that deletes an app. Once an item is deleted that is it. There is no trash can like on a mac.

Can't delete emails from trash

Hello sir !

Empty Trash Can

In 1982, when Apple created the Apple Lisa user interface, they implemented what they called the Trash Can. The trash can is essentially purgatory for files a user no longer wants. Once sent to the trash, the user has the option of restoring the file back to its original place, or annihilating it completely from the computer’s hard drive. Unless there is a backup of a user’s system from before the file was sent to the trash, there is essentially no way of restoring that file once the trash has been emptied.
This metaphor was carried over to Windows 95 in the form of a Recycle Bin. Perched on the desktop of countless millions of averages users was this bin which, when empty, looked empty, and when it contained files, looked full.
There is safety in the Trash Can metaphor. I know that in order to really delete a file from my system, either on Windows or on Mac OS X, I really have to work at it. Yes, there are times when files are accidentally deleted, but for the most part if I realize my mistake before I empty my Trash, I know the file is safe.
