Step 1: Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
Step 2:Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
Step 3:If you see two software update options available, choose the one that you want to install.
Step 4:Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install.

You can update your iOS over the air or via iTunes.
If you don't have enough space to update, you can choose iTunes.

First Generation iPads can use iOS 5
- but iOS 6 / 7 / 8 need an iPad 2 or newer and are not compatibel with first gen. iPhone
