Too bright screen

Let me guess it is too bright in a dark room?

NO OS stated, at all. by OP or Hyjackers.
the dell site has xp vista and w7 driver only for this old PC
if the device manager shows, keyboard drivers missing then try the one below marked,

oops dell lost the users manual after 9 long years, sadly
see the 2 keys below, blue, sun Icons
you push Fn blue key left side of keyboard
then push SUN key down. lower red arrow below.
if this fails to lower the backlamps
that means the drivers are missing. xp,.vista,w7 are all dell supports. (NO OS stated by OP nor hyjackers. as is par here)
Fn+down-arrow : key. if dead driver is wrong.!!!

Update Device Drivers

On the keyboard you have to press Fn+the brightness key (picture of a sun or a half of it or moon).

Or search brightness in Start menu.

Choose Brightness and turn Auto-Brightness on or off. If Auto-Brightness is on, iPhone adjusts the screen brightness for current light conditions

To adjust the brightness you press the Fn key on keyboard and simultaneously press F10 to reduce brightness. Press Fn simultaneously with F11 to increase brightness.

Actually, the problem isn't with the drivers. Right click on the battery icon in your system tray. Select "Power Options" (NOT Power4Gear eXtreme). On the right panel, select "Adjust the display brightness." Then, select "Change advanced power settings." Scroll down and open up the "Display" box. The options that are affecting your screen brightness on battery are "Allow SmartDimmer to reduce my brightness after," "Have SmartDimmer reduce my brightness by," and "SmartDimmer full-screen video mode." Playing with the percentages in these boxes will affect how your screen brightness adjusts itself. To get my screen to stop re-brightening itself, I changed "Allow SmartDimmer to reduce my brightness after/ On Battery:" to 100%. I then changed "Have SmartDimmer reduce my brightness by/ On battery:" to 0%. Finally, I set "SmartDimmer full-screen video mode/ On battery:" to Maximum Power Saving. This should solve your screen-rebrightening problems even with the 163.44 drivers (I use those too). Please Rate.

To adjust the brightness of LCD screen, hold down the FN key, repeatedly press the arrow keys to increase brightness. Or, hold down the FN key, repeatedly press the arrow keys to reduce the brightness.

For some nokia mobiles you cannot reduce the brightness of the screen. They have the default brightness settings only.
