SOURCE: I have 16.7 upright Frigidaire Ultrafreeze

Your evaporator coils frost up in normal use and every eight hours or so the entire unit shuts down and the defrost heater comes on to melt the frost. This cycle last about 20 minutes. The melted frost drips into a drain pan and through a drain tube to the drain tray under the freezer/refrigerator where it's evaporated by the condenser fan.

Your drain tube may be stopped up with ice at the upper end because it drains too slow because it's stopped up at the lower end in the evaporator pan under the unit at the floor. It can get dust and mold in it. Once you get the ice out at the top a little pressure with a turkey baster will usually clear it out. Flushing it out with hot water and clorox may help.
Make sure it drains quick enough to prevent refreezing. . The drain should be located below the evaporator coils on the lower back of the freezer.

Upright freezer door was left ajar. The alarm keeps sounding, can you tell me where the reset button is located.

Hello Deena;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

There is no reset for the alarm. The alarm goes off when you are not maintaining temperature.

During the time the door was ajar, warm air got into the freezer either icing up and locking the cooling fan or forming a block of ice on the cooling coils (Restricting cooling air flow.)

The best thing you can do, unless you want a $300.00 plus service call to defrost everything, is to turn power off to the freezer. Open the freezer door. Have plenty of old towels to soak up the water in the bottom of the freezer as it defrost.

You did not provide a model number which is located on the inside wall of the freezer. Every 8-10 hours your freezer will completely shout down for 20-30 minutes where only the light works and the defrost heater turns on. The ice build up is too much for the defrost heater to handle.

In some freezers the defrost mode is in the control board, in others it is a separate component that you can repeat trip using a flat head screw drive.

No alarm sounding but red light is flashing?

Warning light (red)
If the temperature warning light (4) lights up, it
indicates that the temperature within the freezer has
reached a level where the safe food storage is no
longer ensured. When the freezer is first switched on, the warning light will stay on until the temperature has dropped to
a safe level for the storage of frozen food.

Temperature acoustic alarm
This appliance incorporates an alarm which gives off
an audible signal whenever the warning light comes
on. This signal can be temporarily stopped by
depressing the push button for fast-freezing (6).
The fast-freezing push button can be released as
soon as the warning light is off.

Open door acoustic alarm
This appliance also incorporates an alarm which
sounds if the door is left open for more than 60
seconds. The signal will be stopped when the door is
closed again.

Why does the freezer pill down to desired temp & hold it for 4 to 5 minutes & then kick back on?this freezer is in excellent condition it is a kf48-1as. this is also a digital read out.it is an...

Hi, It really doesn't mean that there is something wrong with it, but then again even though it is only a couple of years old something may have went wrong. The control thermostat could have a problem with it as this is what senses the temperature and turn the unit off and on. I would say that if it pulls down to temp. and shuts off and back on again in that short of time, something does not sound right. Make sure that the door gaskets are in good shape and the doors seal tight. You may need to clean the condenser fan coil which is in behind unit, you will have to roll the unit out and gain excess to it. It could be located in the bottom front or even on top as this is more like the commercial units. We call this short cycling when they go on and off this often. A freon leak could also cause this. I know its only a 2006 model, but these things can happen. When they go on and off like this, they are trying to maintain the thermostat set point. Check to see if its not loosing air somewhere and the condenser coil is clean first. If it continues, get back to me and we can go from there.
Sincerely,
Shastalaker7
PS Make sure the fan is coning on in the freezer. When you open the door, it may have a door switch that shuts it off so you will have to tape it or hold it down to check the fan or fans when door is opened.

Bubbling sound coming from the bottom of my freezer

There is a vacuum build up in the freezer compartment when you close the door. This can make the door difficult to open. You can overcome this by sticking a small lollipop stick to the bottom part of the door gasket. This will act as a vacuum breaker.
