Is this your first time with this monitor or has it worked before? Try testing a different monitor to rule out a pc problem. Also ensure you have it plugged into the right video card socket and also change the settings on the actual display buttons on the monitor to match your pc.
On your Desktop, Right Click the mouse and Select Properties.
Click Screen Saver tab and Select Power. Change Turn Off Monitor
to Never. Your monitor should stay ON forever, until you turn its
power OFF.
Is the battery fully charged? If so unplug the device before turning it on. My roomates HP will shut off if plugged in while powered on it is most likely due to the compound on the heatsink.
Under display settings, it's best to use default theme like vista or xp theme. You can also go to screensaver, then power options and set how long it takes for monitor to shut off. I also recommend updating the video card drivers.
Dell monitors automatically go into power-save mode after a preset
amount of time when the computer is inactive. The Dell monitor will go
completely black, instead of showing a screensaver. This doesn't mean
that your Dell computer
has shut down. Instead, this allows your monitor to essentially turn
off until it's needed again. You can change how long it is before the
Dell monitor goes into power-save mode by changing your display
settings.
Step 1
Press
any key on your keyboard or move your mouse. Either will turn off
power-save mode. Alternately, you can press the power button on your
Dell computer tower or laptop.
Step 2
Press
any key a second time if the monitor goes from power-save to stand-by
mode. Stand-by mode allows the screensaver to appear.
Step 3
Enter
your user name and password into the login prompt if your computer
requires a login. Press "Enter" to begin using your Dell computer.
Step 4
Change
the display settings on your Dell monitor to prevent your monitor from
going into power-save mode prematurely. Right-click anywhere on your
desktop and choose "Properties." Click the "Screensaver" tab and press
"Power." Beside "Turn off Monitor," choose a time amount from the
drop-down list and press "Apply."
hi, you must have enabled power saving options. Thats why your monitor shut down. you can disable, just do the same:
1.Right click on desktop
2.Select properties.
3.Select "ScreenSaver".
4.Select "Power" under Monitor power option.
5.There select "never" from Turn off monitor (drop down menu).
the monitor is going into power saving mode ... it can happen if it is not receiving any signal from the pc ( pc is not running or booted properly, bad video cable connection monitor to pc) or the pc is itself in suspend/standby mode.
Possible Solution:
Your Computer may have not configured the Monitor properly, to check, go to Start menu and Right click My Computer and select Manage then when Computer Manager is open go to Device Manager and find your Monitor and check if that device is working properly (right click on Monitor and go to Properties).
Hope I helped

It sounds like the problem is with the computer's video adapter settings. It is very likely that the monitor cannot handle the settings.
If you boot into safe mode, can you see everything? If so, then the normal mode settings are too high. Safe mode defaults to the lowest possible settings (thats why everything will look really big)
Try turning down the resolution (Right click on the desktop, select properties, go to settings tab) to the lowest possible setting, and then slowly try turn them back up again until you can find the maximum setting the monitor can handle.
