Vizio SV470XVT will not output Dolby 5.1 from optical out..

My Vizio SV470XVT will not output Dolby Digital 5.1 through it's optical output. The setting for Digital Out is set to Dolby 5.1, but no dice..
I reset my TV- No luck.

Connection:
HDMI to TV, Optical out to surround system. Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 work fine from any other digital source (optical, coax or HDMI) in my sound system.

The problem is with the Vizio on this one. The only reason I'm doing this is because I'm using HDMI from my XBOX 360 direct to my TV and I don't want the up-convert delay (caused by HDCP with 2 HDMI cables) when going through the receiver. The optical out on the xbox is only available with the component / AV connector.

Anyone heard of this with the SV470XVT? (btw- my TV's a refurb. That could have something to do with it.)

TV's only will output 5.1 from HD stations. If you have a DVD player, XBOX 360, etc connected through HDMI, then the TV will only send stereo PCM through the optical out.

Do you have to have an optical cord from receiver to tv..koss model ks3102..if not i have rca cords were do cords go.

HD broadcasts by TV stations are often broadcast in Dolby Digital. If your TV can output Dolby Digital or HD then you will need to have the TV connected to the receiver via either the optical in, or the coaxial in. If the receiver can get the Dolby signals via the Coaxial and the TV can send them via a Coaxial socket it should work. Don't forget to set your HD set to output Dolby signals. If the TV or Receiver can only send Dolby via the optical you will have to use that. Optical cables can be picked up cheap these days. I have seen them in pound shops!

I have a Sharp Aquos LC-60LE640X TV and I am trying to connect a Samsung HW-H751 Soundbar to it. I have hooked up the optical cable, adaptor and sub woofer, I have tested the Bluetooth function throug

If you are connecting the soundbar to your TV with the digital audio cable, make sure to select "D IN" using the source button on the soundbar. Bluetooth (BT) is a separate source from another device. (phone, etc.) The TV will need to be set to use the digital audio output and probably PCM format. (?) The subwoofer is preconfigured at the factory to mate up with your soundbar. (See below instructions - your soundbar includes the amplifier:)

Digital audio output setting:
After connecting an amplifier with digital audio input and
external speakers as shown, you should set an audio
output format compatible with the programme you are
watching or the device connected.
Go to "HOME" > "TV Menu" > "Setup" > "Option" >
"Terminal setting" > "Digital audio output" > select
"PCM" or "Bitstream".
NOTE
• When set to "Bitstream", Dolby Digital is output when the Dolby
Digital or Dolby Digital Plus audio formats are received. When
set to "PCM", PCM is output no matter what audio formats are
received.
• When set to "Bitstream", HE-AAC audio formats can be output
as Dolby Digital.

We hooked it up and have no sound

From the Console Settings screen in the System area of the Xbox Dashboard, you can configure the video output of your Xbox 360 console for a widescreen, high-definition TV, determine your audio options, and check your console's serial number and Xbox Dashboard version.
Go to correct section for ... Audio

Change your audio output settings for games from this screen. These audio settings do not affect DVD movie playback. For DVD audio settings, refer to an individual DVD movie's setup screen.

Settings consist of:

  • Analog Output Settings: choose Mono to merge the left and right audio signals so that you can hear all sound through a connection to a monaural TV or monitor; choose Dolby Pro Logic II to listen in normal stereo (no audio surround receiver required) or to listen to Dolby Pro Logic or Dolby Pro Logic II soundtracks from compatible games or other media.

Dolby Pro Logic consists of four channels of audio: front left/center/right and a monaural surround channel that is mirrored in each of your rear left/right speakers. Dolby Pro Logic II uses digital signal processing to generate 5.0 audio (front left/center/right, rear left/right) from any stereo (left/right) programming, whether from movies, music, or games. Unlike movies and music, however, games are specially encoded with Dolby Pro Logic II decoding in mind.

To listen in either Dolby Pro Logic or Dolby Pro Logic II surround sound, you must connect your cable's left/right (white/red) RCA connectors to a compatible surround receiver. For more information, see our connection page for the cable you're using:
  • Digital Output Settings: configure this setting only if you'll be using the Toslink optical digital-audio output from a compatible Xbox 360 AV cable (optical digital-audio cable sold separately):

The default digital-audio setting is Dolby Digital 5.1. If this is your preference, you do not have to make a selection from this screen.

I just purchased a Coby TV Model number TFTV 3255. I am very happy with the set. However it has only ONE audio output. The manual, on page 7, "coaxial output" ,an optical audio cable is required....

If it is a single output and looks like an RCA type, then I would say that the cable you would need is a digital coaxial cable. The optical input/output will have a different shape and is not as big of an opening as a digital coaxial input/output.

Not getting true surround sound

The only way to get Dolby 5.1 audio out of the Xbox will be via fiber optic cable from the Xbox to a Dolby Digital amplifier - which will output a decoded 5.1 signal to a 6 channel amplifier and 5 speakers and one sub-woofer. I doubt the Logitech speaker system has a Dolby 5.1 decoder built in with the amplifier for under $100, but I can't say for sure. If the Logitech has a an optical (or TOSLink) input, connect it to the Xbox and follow the instructions below.

To configure your audio settings, follow these steps:
  1. Start the Xbox 360 console without a disc in the disc tray.
  2. In the System section of the Xbox Dashboard, select Console Settings.
  3. In the Console Settings area, select Audio.
  4. In the Audio Settings area, configure settings for analog output or digital output:
    • Analog output settings:
      • Dolby Pro Logic II: Select this setting for stereo systems or Dolby Pro Logic II-compatible systems.
      • Mono: Select this setting for systems that do not support stereo output. Note If you have connected to Xbox LIVE and downloaded any AutoUpdates, the Mono option will not be available.
    • Digital output settings:
      • Digital Stereo: Select this setting to use digital stereo output.
      • Dolby Digital 5.1: Select this setting to use Dolby Digital output.
      • Enable WMA Pro: Select this setting to enable WMA Pro pass-through if your receiver supports the WMA Pro format.
Note You must use one of the following cables to support digital output:
  • Xbox 360 Component HD AV Cable
  • VGA HD AV cable
  • S-video AV cable
  • Advanced SCART AV cable
  • Japanese HDAV D-connector AV cable

Hook up your Xbox to a Dolby Digital Decoder

Xbox® is the first and only game console to support in-game Dolby® Digital 5.1 surround sound. This lets you experience all the game sounds from your home theater system in full 5.1 surround. Before you get started, make sure you've got the following: A digital audio output. A free optical digital input on your receiver. An optical digital audio cable. Digital Audio Output Your Xbox didn't come standard with a digital audio output, but you're gonna need one for this to work, so hightail it to the store for the Advanced AV Pack or High Definition AV Pack, both of which have digital audio outputs. Microsoft makes both of them. You can also buy third-party AV cables for Xbox?but make sure they have a digital audio output. Free Optical Digital Input For this slammin' sound system to work properly, you need at least one free optical digital input on your receiver. Ready to Hook It Up? Let's Go! Connect the digital audio output to your Xbox. Connect one end of the optical digital audio cable to the digital audio output on your Xbox and the other end to the optical digital input on your receiver. Turn on your Xbox with no disc in the disc drive. In the Xbox Dashboard, select Settings. Select Audio. You will see an Audio Mode screen that shows Dolby Digital and DTS status. Select Dolby Digital. You will see the question "Does your stereo system support Dolby Digital Audio?" Select Yes. You will see Dolby Digital Enabled in the audio screen. Your Xbox is now ready for Dolby Digital gameplay. Insert a game disc and play!
