The TV picture is bigger than my TV screen. How do I make it smaller?

Model KDL-46EX500. The TV picture bleeds off the screen on all 4 sides. The Actors heads are cut off at about eye level, the logos for the networks either don't show or are half missing, things at the bottom of the screen can't be read. Please tell me how to get the picture to fill but not overfill the screen. Thanks.

SOURCE: Normal picture mode make the sharper picture quality but smaller screen apparance

If the broadcast is in 4:3 (square) then either you can have the black bars on the side, or the TV can stretch the image to fill the screen.
Nothing wrong with your set. The broadcast must be in 16:9 to fil the screen.

SOURCE: Picture too big

It seems as if your tv is in "crop", "Zoom", or "full" mode. Select letterbox, normal, or full-screen mode. Look in the manual for exact instructions.

SOURCE: picture seems to big for TV.cant read bottom words

Using the menu or settings button on your remote, access the TV's menu and find the area for picture settings and zoom. You're likely set to a zoom mode, so cycle through the options until you find the zoom setting that sizes to your TV best. (On most widescreens, the best picture is often on the setting 'panarama.'

When i turn on my kdl-46ex500 sony tv the screen will flash on and the sony emblem will appear then the tv will shut down you can do this several time still the same out come

You were smart not to let yourself be ripped off. Try this. Unplug and replug the set in powered down status. Then turn on and off using the remote. Then, one by one, actuate every button on the remote, then turn set off, even if already off. Then turn set on. See how the set works now.

SUBJECT: Counter measure for Intermittently 5 times standby LED blinking
SYMPTOM: Customer may report that intermittently after AC OFF/ ON (or Deep Standby/ ON), TV will shut down with LED blinking 5 times. If set is placed in Standby, then On, symptom will re occur. If AC is removed, set will work normally when AC restored
CAUSE: Timing mismatch of I2C communication causes interrupt signal inside TV. This causes TV to shut down with error 'Standby led flashes 5 times'

SOLUTION: This is a user correctable issue -
Where possible, please refer customer to Sony Website -(or ) and search for relevant model to download correct update. If the unit is in Workshop, please perform update as per Instructions.

After we have switched the TV on a dark line appears around the edge of the whole screen and then it gets bigger and bigger making the picture smaller and smaller - is there a simple solution please

hit your TV lightly on left side or right side or on top & then observe ..........you will get normal picture or it comes & again it goes....if it is happening like that then following is the situation..........after 4 or 5 yrs in some TVs on main board at some soldering joints crack develops....then due to loose contact picture becomes small in size or abnormal width, etc ...........when we hit that lightly then those loose contacts joins temporarly & again picture appears for some time............so solution is ......TV main board should be observed carefully & most of the joints should be re-soldered.......only a good service engineer can do that........even after hitting monitor lightly if there is no response then main board has to be checked completely........in your case iam sure it is loose connection problem.........joints should be re - soldered ...100% it works again ................this problem cannot be solved by user unless user has idea about components( resisitors, transisitors, diodes,...etc) , have soldering iron , multimeter & other tools....................so contact good TV service engineer .............iam from bangalore - 09986222774 - [email protected] ( computers, laptop, printers, etc )

Picture bigger than screen

This can be caused not enough high voltage going to the picture tube. If the picture seems to get larger and smaller depending on the brightness of the scene on the screen that is probably what it is. IF that is the problem, there isn't much a normal consumer can do.
