SOURCE: what cables do i need to connect my acer laptop to

usb cable and external usb dvd reader. it can be done with a thumb drive with a bit of work also.
There is a setting in bios for install, and you should make sure bios is set to boot from either external cd/dvd or thumb drive depending on how you are installing. once the installation is complete you should on next reboot change the bios setting from install to normal, otherwise the usb port will operate at 1 speed instead of 2 which is annoying.

Hello
The answer is YES. You can load Win-7 from an external DVD player, after making it as first boot device. You must have get DVD as first boot devce and the internal hard disc to second boot device. Click out all boot devices to none, by entering into the bios window. You can get the bios settings, by press and hold the "Delete" key of your computer, as it first try to load. OK.

I need to restart the netbook to go back to factory settings

You will need the following items:

1. External USB DvD Drive; Can be purchased from local retailer
2. Your Asus Eee PC Restore Disk; This should have come with your netbook. You can order an additional disk by calling Asus, 888- 678-3688.

3. Once you have the above items be sure all your photos, music, documents, data etc. are backed up to a flash drive or dvd. A factory restore of an Asus netbook will ERASE all personal data on the hard drive. You must back up the data on another device in order to preserve it!

4. Connect the external DvD drive to your netbook and insert the Asus Eee PC Restore Disk.

5. Restart the netbook and boot from CD (usually the default key to boot from CD is F12).

6. Follow the onscreen instructions that are on the restore disk.

7. After installation of all software, update windows and reinstall all your necessary software.

8. Enjoy!

Instaled win7, but forgot to update the bios. So I'm trying to re install XP from the disc that came with the computer, update the bios and then re install win7. y problemis that i don't know how to boot...

Power on netbook, before booting up, press F9 or F10 or Esc Key(it varies on different netbooks), go to the boot options, change the boot order priority and make your DVD drive the first boot option and then your hard drive. now Put the DVD, save the settings. Now it will load the DVD and the set up screen will come.

Eeepc 1001HA won't boot.

Take the battery out, leave it unplugged for a day or so... usually resets the bios for me. Sometimes though, you might have to manually unplug the cmos battery as well, that involves opening the system.

How would i connect my laptop to my daughters netbook? is there anyway i can do this and then boot from the dvd-rom in my laptop to perform a fresh install on the netbook?? my laptop is a acer aspire 5920...

Hi,
You should put the installation cd directly in the netbook. Start the netbook with the cd in the dvd drive and when the message appears "Press any key to boot from cd" press enter. Then you must follow the onscreen instructions to reinstall Windows (the procedure differs for each operating system).

you use eeePC with Linux OS or Microsoft Windows OS? For Linux, follow my instruction for recovery your OS. Press F9, after you turn ON your netbook. And follow that instruction. Or you can use recovery DVD (include your netbook), after you plug in external DVD-ROM and make it boot priority for first is DVD-ROM (enter your BIOS first).
