I performed a factory reset on my hp slate 7 tablet and instead of the hp symbol coming up the ftm symbol came up. Prior to performing the reset the touchscreen was unresponsive and the guidance from the hp support site suggested performing a factory reset.

I would guess that it overheated. You aren't supposed to leave them plugged in for extended periods of time.

There are two ways to do it. You can either update the firmware and it will erase everything for you, or you can do a factory reset, and return to factory settings. Go to Settings, PDN settings (not the Android settings menu) and scroll right to the Reset Defaults location. Tap on the reset button and you will be taken back to factory default settings. It might take a while to reload, but after everything it will be back to factory defaults from when you first bought it. Updating the firmware might be your best option if you care to resell it, because it may cause less issues for the next person and less chance of any returns.
