1. Use a program such as CCleaner (basic version is free) to clean up temporary files.

2. Uninstall programs you don't use. (Control panel - Add/remove Programs or Programs and Features.) Games you haven't played in years, the software that came with the PC you never used - all of it takes up space.

3. Look at where your browser downloads files - if you just use Internet Explorer, there'll actually be a "Downloads" folder in Windows Explorer. Have stuff you downloaded you don't need? You can delete it from there.

4. Archive old documents. I generally recommend buying an external hard drive - which will also let you back up your system - and moving files to that, especially videos (which tend to be large.) *Move* (don't copy) them to the external hard drive.

If you still need space after that, you can also consider adding (or having added) another hard drive, on many systems.

SOURCE: Can I hook up my dell dimension 2400 to my laptop

Hello,

Well you can connect the two computers on a LAN (local area network) and copy files from one to the other. This may or may not be what you really want to do.

If you have a LAN available just connect both machines to it. Then you have to set "File Sharing" on the computer you want to copy to.

Open up Windows Explorer on the machine you want to copy to and find the folder you want to copy your files to. Right click on the folder and select Properties then select the Sharing tab.
Follow the instructions in the second section.

After that is done you can go to the computer you want to copy form and from Windows Explorer in left hand pane, "Folders" scroll down to "My Network Places" -> "Microsoft Windows Network" -> "Workgroup" -> "MSHOME" and find the computer you want to copy to in the list.

Find the folder you want to copy to on that computer and then copy your files in to that folder.

If you don't have a LAN you can use a special LAN cable called a NULL cable to do this. Connect the two machines with the NULL cable and the run the "Network Setup Wizard" from "Control Panel". Select "This computer connects to the Internet through a residential gateway or through another computer on my network". Then follow the setup dialog from there.

Hope this helps.

Many a times, you are struck with a scenario that only a last few % of free space is avilable in Gmail. Though GMail has been growing everyday (or every 2 seconds) in increasing your online storage space - but yet for a person like me who has been using GMail for more than 5 years now as a primary e-mail account, it does become full at many a times.

Today my Gmail account read as "You are currently using 6538 MB (88%) of your 7429 MB.". Now that was a bit worrying for me and decided to bring it down atleast by 5% and here's what I did for it.

Head over to the search bar on top of your Gmail account and type as "has:attachment (*.mov || .mp3 || *.wm || *.avi || *.wmv )" and the results you get could be the large file attachments that are sitting in your GMail account and making it bulky. Evaluate if you need it else you can select them and delete.

To find large zipped attachments use this search option.
has:attachment (
.zip || .rar || *.7z )

To find large pdf / doc / xls / ppt / docx / pptx / xlsx attachments use this search option.
has:attachment (
.pdf || *.doc || *.docx || *.xls || *.xlsx || *.ppt || *.pptx )
Usually ppt / pptx are large culprits too.

P.S: After you delete the mail and attachment, it still remains in your GMail Trash folder. So go over to that folder and hit "Empty Trash". Now you can finally see some very good increase in the storage area of your Gmail account.

As for me, it went upto "You are currently using 6138 MB (82%) of your 7429 MB." which was a pretty good increase for me.

I have an RCA M4304-A mp3 player. I just loaded some audio files but now when I try to turn on the mp3 player it reads "Profiling requires 20 MB free space. Shutting down" I tried to download the...

Sounds like you've exceeded your device's storage limits.

If you can hook it up to a computer, go into the device's storage (via a file explorer), delete 5 or 6 MP3 files from the player. They usually average 4 to 5 MB's each. That should give the unit enough free space to start up correctly.

Only have 7MB left on my 2400 Dell Desktop. How can I increase space?

Hi Anonymous - To increase space for storage you will need to either add another drive(maybe a jump drive or a similar one like you have my be found on Ebay?) to your machine or delete some files from the drive that only has 7mb left on it. You can delete some files by going to My Computer and selecting the Details view for that window. This will show you the size of your biggest files(might be pictures, music or unneeded programs) that could be deleted. Take a look at them and see if they are ones you would like to delete. The bigger the better. Right click and select delete while holding the Shift button. Be sure to empty your Recycle Bin and also your Temp files. You can type %Temp% in the Start search bar. Go to Edit/Select all and then File/Delete(holding Shift button down again) and that should clean out some. Just select skip if any come up with an option while deleting. Hope this helps. Thanks.

I m Abrar..using nokia 5130c-2..i have two questions..firstly my mobile memory is 1.1 GB and it is bieng used 724 MB..how can i increase its size?? And secondly, what is the meaning of formating a memory...

Welcome to FixYa.

Hi Abrar, the memory card is a fixed storage device in terms of capacity. There is no way the size can be increased. The only thing that you can do is either delete some files from the memory to free some space or to replace the memory card with a higher capacity like 2 GB, 4GB or 8GB.

Formatting the memory means to prepare the memory so that it can be recognized by the phone. Be warned that formatting the memory will delete all files stored in the memory card.

Thank you for using FixYa.
Have a great day.

My HTC P4350 is running low on free storage space

The system have used nearly the maximum internal memory available: Storage: Total 33.45 MB; In Use: 32.80 MB; Free: 0.66 MB Program.

If you already deleted or moved to memory card your files, that means that the space is taken by installed application/games, or by files left over by previously installed applications.

Save all your files on computer and do a complete reset of the HTC, restoring system to factory settings.
