Question about Hoover Nextra HNL 3166 Z Front Load Washer
Hi there, I have a hoover nextra 7, the wash seems to stop part way through and I can hear water stopping and starting every couple of seconds and I see water do the same when the detergent draw is open. the program will not continue. there seems to be no error codes showing. any ideas please.
Does the machine overfill to the point of flooding out of the soap drawer if you left it long enough? most modern machine have flood protection and if the water level / fill goes on to long then they will automatically dump the excess water by pumping empty. Sounds like you have some problem with water level control, but the most likely cause is 'Syphoning Empty'. this happens when the end of the drain hose is fitted LOWER than the normal water level in the washer, and so the thing syphons empty just like if you were syphoning petrol out of a car fuel tank. Just lift up the end of the hose - and secure it with the hook provided - or ensure the bend in the hose is high enough to be above the water level if you have a waste connection onto a sink, etc.
If not syphoning, could be a micro hole in the air pipe to the level switch caused by rubbing of the hose on spin; or possibly a blockage in the sump / filter - or faulty level switch.
Logically, the machine can't keep filling without flooding! so check for syphoning empty. Programs won't progress until the previous logical step is completed. Very Common!

A possible fault that is consistent with your symptoms is that the water level sensing is confused. This is usually a column of water in a plastic tube bearing on a diaphragm switch which operates when the weight of water is sufficient to trip it.
The water level is adjusted by a dial which alters the pre-loading on the switch, meaning it needs a bigger or lesser column of water to trip it. If there is a leak in the tube, that would account for the water level trying to cycle. Any water underneath the machine? If so it is a good indicator that is the right track. If not it still may be that fault, but the leaking water is just not making it to the floor.
It is normal that the program suspends for filling, and it will not give rise to an error. Also normal is flow through the detergent drawer whenever there is a fill cycle. What is not normal is the repeated fill cycles.
Also investigate the actual switch associated with the level sensing. It might have bad contacts.
Please post what you eventually find the fault to be. Helps everyone, especially those trying to diagnose at a distance.
