The mainboard does not need to be replaced, just the sensor head open is dirty and needs cleaned.

There is a printhead hot error that will come up on the printer if it overheats the printing mech and it will pause. If it totally locks up I'd suspect the main logic.

I need to know what the difference is between a Z4m and a Z4m Plus.
Mechanically there isn't much difference. Electronically the 4Mplus replaced the 4M giving it more memory, ZPLII capabilities, and the ability to work with new barcodes and fonts that weren't supported by the 4M firmware.

USB PORT FOR ZEBRA Z4M
It will not work with any drivers if you do not have a parallel port. You can get a pci card that has parallel port on it for use with the zebra z4m.
