sounds like your print head needs cleaning
make sure you have ink in the cartridges

open up your printer properties and look for a maintenance section and choose head cleaning
print a test page to comfirm that the head is clean
some printers need a deep cleaning
when the test page comes out without any imperfections, it should print fine.

Print a few test pages, the ink basically needs time to saturate the system.

Perform a deep clean of the ink heads to get it working well, this option is found in the software that came with your printer.

Most likely you need to do a deep cleaning of the print head nozzles. Found the following info on ehow.com. It's not your exact model but may lead you in the right direction.
Click on "File" and then "Print" if your printer is an HP 5420v or a 5440 or if it is a 5490 series. A print dialog Box will open. Click on "Properties" and then select the "Service" tab. Open the printer toolbox by clicking on "Service this device." When the "Service" tab appears, click on "Clean the print cartridge." A series of easy-to-follow instructions will appear. You will be allowed up to three levels of cleaning if your print head requires it. Be prepared for your printer to automatically print a test page after each cleaning level--if a test page looks O.K., you can cancel further cleaning.
When this happen to me I did a deep cleaning and it cleared right up.

Make sure you inserting the paper not deep inside just insert and stop it when you feel any resistance .and try to print something. If it is print then well otherwise you have to show it service center.

Try running deep print head cleaning on the printer and see if that helps

Go to the printer settings through the software given by HP, probably HP solution centre and choose printer settings and further you can go deep to disable the test page at startup.
