Point your web browser at http://www.gmail.com

If another account comes up, sign out of it by clicking the avatar in the upper-right then clicking "Sign out." You can then sign in to another account.

Once you're in, click your avatar in the upper-right, click "Account," click "Security," then click "Change password."

does your friend remember the back up email address she would have used to sign up to gmail. Go to sign in gmail page and click on help and select don't know password .

I take it you password isn't working. You need a new one. In the gmail sign on page,
1. Enter your correct username.
2. Instead of entering your password, click on "Need help?"
3. The next page will help you get a temporary password, and then you can change your password to a new, permanent one.
