Black Screen On Start Up!

Hey Guys,

I recently watched a tutorial on how to fix a Dreamcast laser problem, but something came out and I had to pull the machine apart to get it back in. Now, when I turn on my Dreamcast, it starts running but it dosn't kind of grunt like it used to when it was running. Not only that, but the screen starts up black, then shows the dreamcast logo and it just stays there.

Please guys, if there was possibly something that I have moved while taking my console apart, could you please lend my a hand?

Thank, Nat

Please post pictures, and where did it fall out from, and did you put a game in and the turn it on? Maybe it could be the main board being faulty, and might be fried. Please add more details.

My Dreamcast is able to play any game for a couple of minutes, then resets to the main title screen after a period of time (this varies from around 1-10 minutes), sometimes just showing a black screen. I...

Hi,

Sounds like your dreamcast is getting cut of from its power, the dreamcast sometimes gets a build of of dirt around the power connector pins that supplies the entire unit with power, try this youtube guide here for cleaning http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rizeLEQyzs&feature=related you don't need to do the bending section of the pins. just clean them and the actually plastic socket section where the pins go in.

Dreamcast is not reading disk says please put in disk

There can be 1 or 3 problems with this
1 The laser lens needs to be replaced
2 The motor that spins the disc needs replacing
3 The motor that drives the laser carriage needs replacing.

90% of the time its the laser lens

Menu of games will NOT show! (dreamcast screen + music WILL show)

Whew, nice to have someone who tells an entire problem.

it's possible that dust IS an issue, but i doubt it. You console is probably falling under the same problem that all the old consoles have been facing lately... they are OLD. Your most likely right in the fact that your laser is probably getting weak and is having a hard time reading the disc. Try to play another game or something and see what happens. If the same sort of problem, chances are it's the laser. If there's NO problem with another game, then chances are it's the disc. Hope this helps you.

Dreamcast shows logo then goes blank

Definately the DC. Try ensuring that the connections are properly made first, and if that fails, try wiping the laser lens (very carefully) and the disc with a smooth cloth.

Freezing problem with Games

The Dreamcast is no longer supported because it was to easy to copy the games, but there are still a loyal few who keep the scene alive. I have no idea how much you want to put into fixing the problem, but the only way to fix your problem is flashing the Dreamcast BIOS.

The Dreamcast is basically a computer; with the right programming you can do anything; and having a Dreamcast Keyboard is nice.

Sega Dreamcast console problem

hi with your new dream cast dont put it on the sub woofer as the magnetic field it gives of can cause havoc with the chips and resistors this would be the reason why the orange light problem occured.
The vga adaptor would cause no problems.
Also the computer needs to be on flat hard surface and not boxed into a confined place or put ontop of anything else electrical like dvd plater or video as these give off heat and would cause the dreamcast to stop working over heating problems are just to expensive to repair as you might need to replace the whole board alot of people now are playnig their ps3 on carpet and then wonder why it stops working ok so remember that it needs to get air to it and not ontop of heat source.
As for leaving it on for 2 or 3 hours now they dont advise you to play it for that long but from my experiance as long as the unit is able to get air around it ie no vents blocked and not ontop of anything warm or on carpet then their should be no problems as i have played alot of my consoles for most of the day without turning off so dont worry to much about that.
Now the problem with the first console is as you probably guessed is the laser failing to read the game data this is common in all console based computers that work of cd.
But what you could do is take the laser out of the one that has the light problem and put this laser into the first console then that way it should work then you will have 2 consoles if anything goes wrong with one.
Now the one with the light problem the only parts that will be any good from the inside would be the laser things like the lid casing most of the board is now probably no good so its not worht keeping.
But if you put the laser into the first one then you could use that untill it packs up then you have the new one to fall back on so before you chuck the other two out give it a try you cant do any more damge than is already done anyway can you.
The laser will be held in buy couple of screws then their will be a wire coming from it that goes to the board the wire is just a clip in wire and should pull out of the board easily and the same putting it back in the other one.
If you need further assistance let me know ok i wish you all the best with the new one
