If 1/2 of a viewing screen is blank; it generally means the LCD Circuit was damaged. This can happen from a blow to the back or front of the screen when in operation; water damage, a sudden surge of electricity; or many other conditions. Once a screen has been shorted out in that fashion, it can no longer function. It is not repairable as it stands and only a Replacement Screen and circuit board can make your system operate again. Usually, the cost is more than a new unit, thus most individuals simply buy a new unit.
Because of the type of screen (e-ink) I recommend you to contact Kindle support to get it repaired, this type of screen has an electronic layer, so 'm pretty sure the screen got damaged.
