Red light flashes 10 times - Panasonic TH-42PX6U

I heard that the flashing codes on Panasonic plasma units represent a specific type of error.

upon plugging in unit and pressing power, the red light flashes 10 times -- do you know what that represents?

same issue. also blew one line fuse. In order to see 10 flashes, had to replace fuse. Suspect SS board.

Join the club - set worked perfect for 1 1/2 yrs - out of warranty - Panasonic denies big problem. Blew both line fuses, replaced, now I get 10 flashes and no power up. Just tell me which board to buy! Discount-Merchant has the least expensive prices.

exactly the same problem. set is about 1half - 2 years old - Panasonic.
    Just suddenly went off.
    Light falshes ten times.
Called Panasonic who were BEYOND HOPELESS !!!!! ....rude and USELESS and then demanded $145 to 'possibly fix it...bu we dont really know what the problem is"...
I said YOU ARE KIDDING !
Ridulous that you spend that money on tv and it just decides to stop working afterless tha 2 years. ****!

Hey there! i finally figured it out!! If you have a computer hooked up with the HDMI cable in the back of the TV and the computer is either on screen saver mood or sleep mood then it is trying to make the television go to sleep aswell. So the only way you can have a computer hooked up to the TV is if you use the front HDMI hook up. pretty weird but thats what was wrong with mine. Hopefully that was the problem :):)

I bought this tv in August of 2008. First episode occurred in October of 2009 - after manufacturer warranty had expired. It returned back to normal. Second episode occurred in March of 2010 and never got the unit to power up.

I had an electronic service center check it out. Turns out it's a defective power unit that's misfiring. The misfire triggers the overheat error code.

Panasonic retailer wanted $575 for parts and labor.

Service center executed finely and strapped on a 6 month warranty for $375.

I will be faxing a copy of the invoice and original receipt for a reimbursement.

I found a solution that might work for a few people. I had my mine (TH-42PX80U) set up with my PS3 on HDMI1, X-Box on HDMI2 and computer on HDMI3. After moving yesterday, my PS3 and computer ended up on 3 and 1 respectively. Then this morning I had the red light for the first time in two years. Apparently the video cards on some computers cause problems for the plasma unless they're plugged into HDMI port 3 like I originally had it. I made the switch, unplugged the tv for thirty seconds, and presto, problem solved.

I have the same issue. Originally the tv just shut off, no blinking light whatsoever. Wouldn't come back on so I bought a new power supply board. After installing the new board, I now get 10 blinking lights. Does anyone have another solution for this?

  • dr_touny Dec 16, 2010

I am having the same 10 blinking lights issue with my TV. I ran some diagnostics and I suspect the problem is the P board (power supply board... the only beige one). However, the 10 blinking lights can be indicative of 3 different board problems.

    1) The P Board
    2) The PA Board
    3) The H Board

Or a combination of the above. If you already replaced the P board, try the following..

Disconnect the connection from the PA board to the H board. Turn your TV on. If you see 10 blinking lights, your H board is fine. If you don't, replace your H board. Next, disconnect the connection from your P board to your PA board. Turn on your TV. If you see 10 blinking lights, your PA board is fine, if not, then your PA board is also messed up.

If running both these tests still produced 10 blinking lights both times, then it could be 1 of 2 things. Either you bought a bad P board, or your PA board is messed up. The only way to differentiated is by checking voltage, which I'll assume you'd rather not do.

    Good Luck!

Same problem. Temp fix.
When plugged in, error code flash 10 times repeat.
Unplug the TV, error code should flash about 3 repeat. Wait untill it stops flashing.
Plug back in and turn on TV. If this doesn't fix it, it's a defective part/unit.

TH-42PZ80U Panasonic Plasma, red light flashes 10 times

Panasonic said "A" board,
A board SOS Detect (Explanation)
10 Blinks SOS: The voltage regulators IC5400 and IC5401 in the A board generate SUB9V and SUB5V. The 9V and 5V from these ICs are monitored by IC1100. Any abnormality on the SUB9V or SUB5V lines, triggers the shutdown circuit and the MPU shuts down the unit. The power LED blinks 10 times.

But need to measure the connection SC2, if it short, it will be the SC board.
