Washer does not stay running
If it fills up with water then does not progress further then you need to first have the Pressure Switch assembly and its attached hose checked. This is the device which senses when the bowl is filled to the water level selected, turns off the incoming water supply and connects the power(via an internal switch) back to the timer so that it can progress into the WASH part of the cycle.
As always, I never suggest that an unskilled person attempts such repairs as you are dealing with water and 240volt AC which can be a LETHAL COMBINATION if mistakes are made and work safety rules are not followed to the letter. Leave it to someone qualified.
Like Amy said, we need more info. do you see any fail codes on the display?, does your door locks?, do you hear any noises?.
If it starts and fills then tumbles, and time has moved off the display then a couple of things if water remains in tub something has lodged in pump/or it has stripped, and or if no water and not spin cloths soaking wet then the door switch....

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,
I would suspect the water inlet control valve may be malfunctioning- not closing (its default no power position).
Quick temporary fix, although tiresome, turn whichever tap, hot or cold, off when washing finished. You've probably already thought of that!
In the meantime I would suggest a service call is required ;-0(

Testimonial: "Thanks- I felt sure water cannot get into the washer unless this valve is mal-functioning--checked price on Whirlpool site--$59.00--cut price to 56"
If you think the wash load is in a spin cycle of the wash cycle or rinse cycle place the machine in Spin Only cycle and see if it will complete.
Waht are your DIY skills? Do you want to try the repair/fix?.............Rich
