My tablet turned off on its own while i was using it plugged on to power cord. I turned it back on again but all i could see was a black screen. Then, i couldn't turn it off anymore. I pressed the reset button behind it and it shut off. Now, it makes noises when I try to turn it on but it doesn't light up. Is it dead?

i think your capacitor is blown, do a google search for insignia, lcd, capacitor...
you can buy another one for about $2 but its a pain to install, you can also instead buy a new powerboard for about $80, its an east install and you wont blow more capacitors

the problem lies in themain board in the tv. you can buy one from ebay for around $80 used. its not to bad to replace either. just remove the back panel the main board it the tin/ metal wit hthe ciruit board in it on the left side same side as the power botton just unplug the 5-7 wires and unscrew the 2-3 screws and carfully side that board out and replace with a new workign one and put back together and you should be good to go.

SOURCE: TV was playing, then the screen turned black.
If the screen is black and you have sound then lightly press and shine a strong flashlight against the screen. If you see an image around the edge of the flashlight, an image is being 'displayed'. The problem is probably in the Inverter/CCFT or the power going to the Inverter.
SOURCE: INSIGNIA LCD won't turn on
replace 2 condensers in the power supply with greater voltage ones.original are 1000uf 35volt...use 1000uf 65volt...99cents each
power circuit is made to fail with typical tv industry tactics...the warranty is reflected by the life of their condensors (capacitors) average life is 2000 hours..
easy...huh
if your a smoker...you must clean the button cover as they get stuck on with your stupid tobacco residue. 75% of all LCD tv's that smokers own fail this way...
\tough huh?
TRY TO STOP SMOKING...
