Richard, it could be a unresponsive control to reboot the unit unplug power cord from wall a couple of min's and plug back in. I would ask if you are gently holding start button in until you here a click then release the button. as the start button is depressed it is a time process to enable to processor to think... let us know.

SOURCE: Whirlpool AWM 8143 - Starts a cycle and then

This is either a problem with the door lock itself or most probably a motor failiure as the door open light also indicates some kind of motor problem. If your appliance is 4/5 years and above then you will most likely need to change the set of carbon brushes on the motor and this will solve your problem

Turn off power, unplug, hold power button for 30 seconds, take out memory, or if you have more than one stick only take all but 1, plug the power back in and start the computer. If a screen pops up that bios has changed press F2 to continue once computer is completly loaded click start, shut sown, unplug power cord again, hold power button 30 seconds, insert other memory and restart

Firmware corrupted? Only prints some random computer text

The printer is in line mode. Do the following to take it out of line mode:
Turn printer power off.
Hold the feed button while turning printer power on.
When the light starts flashing, release the feed button.
When the light starts flashing again, press and hold the feed button.
When the light turns steady amber, release the feed button.
When the light turns steady green, the mode is changed.
Verify the mode by printing and inspecting a status report.

This requires good timing and may take several tries. You'll know it worked if no labels are reeled out after you're done.
