We have an older faema due machine. Currently the steam wand will dispense NO steam. Water will come out of the water spot and espresso head. What are some possible reasons?

First, I am NOT a Faema repairman, Though I've worked on some Faemas, and similar espresso machines.
** Your question is a bit vague so I will try to provide info.
The 'semi-automatic' means you don't have to watch the brewing of the coffee. The machine will 'Dose' out a per-determined amount of water through the portafilter. Manual machines require to operator to turn water on and off to dose. Full automatic will grind the beans, measure and pack the coffee, then brew the coffee with water. Some have the option to froth and dispense milk directly into the cup. The industry usually refers these machines as 'Super-Automatics' They are very expensive and are designed for untrained personnel (not a Barista) to make coffee. There are a number of Home use machines now that provide a similar function but can only produce a cup for personal use and not multiple cups.
** I have come across automatic milk steamer and frother. This can be a simple cappuccino attachment to your steam tip. More updated version have an auto-frother that replaces the steam wand and will do a fair job (IF THEY ARE KEPT CLEAN!). Some machines have modified steam wands with sensor probe that will measure the milk temperature and shut off the steam when heated to set point. You will find all these features handy at first as it gets a novice worker quickly up to speed to produce product. But once they get the proper Barista training, most will not use these features as it's generally faster to produce orders the standard way. (also a good Barista will always present a professional looking cup!)
** I've noted that repeat customers appreciate the effort that goes into a properly brewed cup of coffee. Otherwise we would all go to a coffee vending machine (with instant coffee, Yuk!)

hi there,
do you hear the pump running when you ask for water or steam? You should hear the pump continuously when you ask for hot water, and intermittently when the steam is dispensed.
No hot water or no steam could come from many causes:
valve not working or not actuated (control board), and also the switch that closes when the water knob is turned may be defective.
Do you hear that switch clicking when you open the water knob?
Difficult to help further with so little behaviour information.
Good luck,
M.
Descaling Saeco Automatic espresso machinesSAECO VIENNA SUPERAUTOMATIC MACHINES: SAECO VIENNA DIGITAL - MANUAL DESCALE PROGRAM 1. Fill the water tank with the Saeco descaling solution. (1 bottle of Saeco descaling solution to one full tank of water.) 2. Turn on the machine. Run approximately 1 cup through the steam wand by turning open the hot water steam valve). Turn machine off and let sit for 5 minutes. 4. Repeat this procedure until the water tank is empty. Then rinse water tank thoroughly and flush the machine by running two tanks of clear water through the steam wand. 5. To clear the "Decalcify" message on the Digital model, press the MENU/OK key to go into programming mode. Scroll up or down to select the "Signal.Descal" function. Press MENU/OK. Next, the messages " Quantity Water Not Reached" and "Left Quantity" will flash. Press MENU/OK again - the message "Reset Descaling Program - Yes" will appear. Press MENU/OK again. During this phase the pump runs at intervals and the message "Machine is Descaling" is displayed. The complete program takes about 40 minutes. Do not add any water to the tank during this phase. When the message "Descaling Finished" appears, close the hot water/steam valve. The message "Rinse Machine" will appear. 4. Remove and rinse water tank thoroughly, fill with fresh water and replace on machine. Empty the container under the hot water/steam nozzle and replace. Flush the machine by running the tank of clear water through the hot water/steam wand until the message "Rinsing Finished" appears. Exit the Programming mode by pressing "MENU/OK" Refill the water tank with fresh water. 5. To clear the "Decalcify" message on the Digital model, press the MENU/OK key to go into programming mode. Descaling Single Boiler Home espresso machines(HOME SINGLE BOILER ESPRESSO MACHINES)
Approximately every 3 months (depending on your use and the water hardness), clean the machine with natural citric acid based decalcifying agent. 1. Add a descaling solution into the water reservoir. Mix thoroughly to dissolve (use warm water for better results). 2. Remove the filter holder and place a cup under the group head and another cup, or other container, under the steam wand to catch cleaning solution. 3. Turn espresso machine on, turn coffee pump on and run approximately 8 oz. of solution through the brew head. Turn machine off and let the machine sit for 15 minutes. 4.Run approximately 8 oz. through the steam wand, and again, turn machine off and let sit for 15 minutes. Repeat by allowing solution to run alternately through the steam wand and brew head. Turn espresso machine off after each cycle. Repeat process until solution has been run through. 5. Do not leave espresso machine on. Do not wait for the ready light to come on. Do not use the steam switch during this process. Do not allow reservoir to run empty! 6. Rinse reservoir thoroughly with fresh water. Refill reservoir with fresh water. Run half a tank of fresh water through group head, alternating between group head and steam wand.
The wand can leak if the rocker switch is not in the UP position.
In MIDDLE position it will try to deliver hot water.
In DOWN position it will try to deliver steam.
The thermoblock in this unit is actually a 3-way valve, of which two positions route water from the boiler directly to the wand. The 3rd position (UP) routes hot water (but not steam) from the boiler to the group head.
Try holding the switch in the UP position by hand when making coffee. If the machine still pushes water through the wand then you will have to replace the switch inside the machine that is activated by the rocker, or the valve it operates.
This is a result of the water temperature in the boiler increasing, thereby expelling water that may remain in the lines out of their respective exit points. A solution may be to place a container under the group head to catch the water, or opening the steam valve partially to allow the water to exit through the steam wand (again placing a vessel/cup/pitcher there to catch the water). This is a problem that even higher end (dual-boiler) models have, due to the necessary purging of water that accumulates in the steam wand during down-time.
Don't look at it as a problem, but simply as a quirk that single-boiler machines have. If you are still irked by the issue, consider buying an inexpensive manual frother (Bodum makes these) to froth and heat your milk (in the microwave after frothing) separately. An added plus is that you can do this while you make your espresso, so if you make primarily milk-based drinks (latte, capps etc.) you'll save on time.
If steam wand is not blocked then the problem is on the inside of the machine, try descaling the machine that might clear the blockage in the steam line.
