Computer screen on, Projector off

If you are running Windows 7\8:
Leave the ViewSonic projector on.
Right click anywhere on the desktop and select "Screen Resolution".
In the display column, it will give you an option to select your computer monitor, the ViewSonic, or to clone the displays.
Select your computer monitor display only.
Shut off the ViewSonic projector.

If you are running Windows XP:
The process is basically the same except you find the settings under Control Panel > Display.

Is it an HP or a Viewsonic screen ?

Either way, looks like a power supply problem to me, some Viewsonic screens are known to have a problem with their inner power supply card, If your screen is still under warranty I suggest you don't lose time analysing the problem and just make them come and fix/replace it
