a 550D is a detachable lens camera and will not auto-zoom (it has a rubber ring that you turn to accomplish this with most lenses). are you sure you have an EOS 550D, or did you mean auto-focus?
ERR 80: SHUTTER
DESCRIPTION: This error occurs in the following conditions.
When the CAMERA self-check system detects that the shutter has not been fully charged (ready to shoot).
When the CAMERA self-check system detects that the shutter operation sequence has not been completed correctly.
When the built-in flash cannot be recharged after the E-TTL preflash but before the main exposure.
REMEDIAL MEASURE: Try clearing the error by turning the main power switch OFF and then back ON.
I am going to take a guess here and say you are getting an error message. Sometimes the contacts on the lens to camera do not make good contact. If this is your issue, use some denatured alchol and a cotton swab for CAMERAS, not for cleaning your ears and clean the gold contacts. Never touch or attempt to clean the mirror inside the camera. This should be done at a camera store. let me know.
A 5 error is the camera thinks the flash is not raising. Look near the hinge for a small button and see if it is up or down. This lets the camera know is the flash is up or down and if the button is stuck down you will hear the motor fire a few times and it will then error. Unfortunately, this is one of the problems that starts to appear on cameras with pop-up flashes. You can hit the button and pull it up at the same time. Only other option is to send it to Canon to get it repaired. or, Get an Speedlite like the 430EXII or 580EXII. The flash unit may make your camera bigger, but the results will be much better once you learn flash techniques.
Identical Canon models are sometimes marketed under different names in different parts of the world.Rebel cameras are known in America and EOS cameras are known in Europe. For example the EOS 550D is called Rebel T2i in America. They are in fact the same camera they just don't have the same name.
Send it to Canon repair. I did a quick search on google and its seems like its a circuit board/shutter issue, in some case removing the battery helped on the short term but sometimes not. seems like you got a lemon.http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer?pageKeyCode=repairLanding
