You can buy a new block and you don't have to replace the whole harness if the wire just burnt at the block, you can cut it,put on another wire connector and reconnect it to the block with the cord, make sure when you're done all the nuts and connectors are tight so this doesn't happen again and use the metal cord bracket,if it's not on your cord buy one,it holds the cord in place so when the dryer moves it holds the cord in place,if you don't use it the cord could cut on the metal frame and the wire connectors on the block will come loose from the cord moving or vibrating with the dryer running

SOURCE: Electric Dryer

If your dryer came with a 4-prong plug, do not change it. For the very reasons you quoted with the article, you may screw up the 110v accessories required of your appliance (like the clock or digital display). It is best to change the household outlet to a 4-prong type. Just make sure your wiring is correct. You will need a neutral on the 4th leg, which means you will probably have to run new wiring from the outlet to the distribution panel.

SOURCE: LG DLE2514W Power does not stay on. Power cuts

If you move the cord @ the outlet and the dryer shuts off replace outlet if the prongs on the cord are not damaged.

If you wiggle at the dryer side and it shuts off un plug the dryer remove acess cover and inspect end of cord. Ck. and make sure terminal nuts are tight. and not burnt due to a loose connection.

SOURCE: My LG dryer had a 4 prong cord and my new house is a 3 prong

Well a dryer works off of 240 Volts. It splits that up. The light in your dryer uses 110V but the heating elements use 240V. The motor which won't start uses 110V and the controls use 110V. There could be a couple prolems and of which it could be. You need to get a meter and check that both leads are getting 110V from each hot lead to neutral. Also when you switch back to a three prong, the ground is no longer separate and you need to jumper the ground to the neutral terminal. (When you have a four prong cable the ground is separate for the fact that its safer). Even if the circuit breaker is on, I would check that each terminal of the breaker is putting out 110V to ground (If so it needs to be replaced, its simple to do just wire it like the other one, and turn off main power to replace it so there is no power to the buss bar its attached to. Just be careful not to touch the main feed wires to the panel as they are still powered). If none of this pans out, it could also be that your dryer needs that four wire plug (I would check with your manufacturer). Either way, if your dryer worked before it shouldn't be a dryer problem now

I have a Maytag Neptune electric dryer. I put it in storage and moved. When I got to my new house I had to change the plug to a 4 prong as the receptacle is different. I changed it as instructions showed...

4-WIRE SYSTEM CONNECTIONS

Remove the ground strap screw from the terminal block support. Fold the ground strap over so both ends of the ground strap will be attached to the center terminal block post.

Connect the neutral (white) conductor of the cord to the center (silver) post of the terminal block. Connect the grounding (green) wire of the cord to the terminal block support using the ground strap screw.

Connect the red and black wires of the cord to the outer posts of the terminal block.

Be sure the terminal block nuts are on tight. Secure the power cord in position. Tighten the strain relief screw(s) in order to clamp the strain relief to the cord. Replace the terminal block cover.

LG Ground terminal block wire exploded. Need to replace entire harness and 4-prong power cord. Do I really need to replace the entire harness or can I buy a new terminal block and cut the black grounding...

This is not a common thing to happen so, If that wire exploded the advice is to get first an electrician to check on the wiring of the house, secondly call a service technician to check on the dryer. Good luck.

The left terminal on the terminal block exploded. The power cord has been attached and running fine for several months. The other 2 terminals seem un-affected and the circuit breaker did not trip.

it of course recomended that the cord and terminal block be replaced but by covering the terminal in electric tape would work just fine.
If you want to go ahead and replace the terminal block, which is only available as part of the entire wire harness the part number is 6877EL1007E it can be purchased at your local appliance parts store on online at

I need to change my 3 prong to a 4 prong

Unplug the dryer then remove the terminal block cover and disconnect the 3-prong cord from the dryer. Note that the cord has red , black, and white wires but sometimes the red and black wires are both replaced by same color wire, usually gray and can switch places. There's also a ground strap wire also connected to the center terminal together with the white (neutral) wire.

Get yourself a 4-prong cord and note that it has red, black, white, and green/yellow wires but sometimes, like the 3-pronged one, the red and black wires are both replaced by same color wire, usually gray and can also switch places. All you have to do now is connect the 3 wires in the same manner they are connected as 3-prong cord to the terminal block. The ground strap wire now just need to be connected to the remaining 4th wire, the green/yellow wire instead of the center terminal together with the white (neutral) wire. Reinstall the terminal block cover and it's done.

It can be observed that converting a 3-prong cord to 4-prong cord is merely splitting the neutral line and the ground thereby increasing the number of prongs from 3 to 4 whereas, on the other hand, converting a 4-prong cord to 3-prong cord is merely joining the neutral line (white) and the ground (green/yellow) thereby reducing the number of prongs from 4 to 3.. Kenmore 700 dryer with a three prong cord is being converted to four prong. Is there a drawing of what wires by color going to the proper screw location?

There's a ground strap wire (green/yellow) attached to the dryer cabinet and connected to the center terminal where the white neutral wire of the power cord is connected. Disconnect this ground strap wire and remove the 3-prong power cord from the terminal block taking note where the wires are connecedt to. Connect the 4-prong power cord in the same way same wire colors of the 3-prong cord are connected to the terminal block. Connect the ground strap wire to the remaining fourth wire (green/yellow). Just do the reverse when converting 4-prong to 3-prong. The link below might enlighten you further on this matter.

The dryer had,a 4 prong plug, but my plug in,is 3 prong,so I put my old cord on it,the dryer spins but doesn't heat.do I need too switch plug in?

The following link explains how to correctly install a power cord on your appliance:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3575913-installing_a_220_vac_appliance_cord

The main difference is how the Neutral (WHITE) wire and Ground (GREEN or BARE COPPER) wire are terminated on the terminal block in the back of the dryer:

- In a 3-wire configuration, these two wires are connected together via a ground ******** the terminal block.

- In a 4-wire configuration these two wires are independent of each other are NOT terminated together. Neutral is terminated at the terminal block and ground is terminated to theequipment cabinet via a ground lug.

NOTE: Newer homes built after the year 2000 REQUIRE a 4-wire configuration to be in complaince with the National Electric Code. In addition, some newer appliances may not work correctly without a 4-wire power cord. You want to refer back to your installation instructs to verify your power requirements.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Changing from 3 to 4 wire hookup on a electric dryer:
Power cord help for 3 & 4 prong dryer cords
This is an example of a three wire connection dryer cord hookup. Notice that there is a ground strap connected from the common center terminal to the frame of the terminal block. Place the center wire of the cord on the center terminal [ one with the ground ******** it ] and the other two wires will be placed on the outer terminals and it doesn't matter which wire goes right or left. Get the center wire of the cord right and you are in business.
This is an example of the 4 wire dryer cord hookup. Notice that the ground strap has been removed from the terminal block frame and folded back onto the center terminal for storage. You can see the colors of the other hookups. TIP: White always to the middle.

Change the power cord from 4 prong to three

If converting from a 4-prong to a 3-prong configuration, the wires are terminated at the terminal block as follows:

RED (hot) - to RED
BLACK (hot) - to BLACK
WHITE (neutral) - to WHITE
GREEN (ground) - is terminated to neutral by using a common screw at the terminal block, or by using a ground strap from the neutral terminal to a ground on the equipment casing.

If in doubt, the following link explains the color codes:

If you have any questions, please ask me. I hope this helps you.
