Will my 10 amp power supply run my radio and my 100 watt linear both of them

simeon is right you need atleast a 15 amp power supply. the draw on a 100 watter alone is about 10 amps then your radio is about 4 i would go with a 20 amper to be thermally safe .

NO

you cant use a 10 amp supply is the answer for both units

you need a 20 amp supply

look for a diawa supply on ebay
youll find a 40 or 30 amp type for about £50

a quality unit that will never give you any problems

fans are handy too keep things cool

also a decent 1:1 swr and good quality heliax cable is a good idea too use

I will answer the question. Figuring that 10 amps is continuous not peak. 10 amp multiplied by 12.5 it should be good for 125 watts. But you are on the ragged edge. I do agree you should lower dreaded key but you did not ask that question. But a swing kit will solve that. That is amusing SSB and the 80 watt cobra 29 comments.

the radio you are trying to fry your amp with is driving the amp to hard. that radio has a toshiba 80 watt final inside the radio you are killing your radio with the dead key at 2 watts it causes the final to overheat and shut down because it is not built to be turned down that much. its best to turn the radio back up and use the radio.

Essentially what is done is replace the RF output transistor with one that can handle the 30 Watts output. Since you are not going to achieve it with higher B voltage, you have to modulate more current, and the bias voltages adjusted to accomodate the different characteristics of the new of the new final. Then the radio is checked to make sure the tank circuit is still in tune.

This is the basic outline of how to do it in a manner where you actually learn hands on, and apply what you should already know.

The alternate method is to install a linear amplifier. A 10 meter linear can usually work with only slight modifications.

BTW. the common search engines are worthless for finding radio mods. By design- they are oriented to a controlled marketplace.
tip

Facts about Cb radio.

a Cb(Citizens Band) radio usually only broadcast on frequencies 26.965 to 27.405 megahertz. It is for mostly short range use 3 to 20 miles range. It comes with legal power of 4 watts. Ranges average about 5 miles. Don't expect big results off this little low-power Am transmitter. A basic 40 channel radio, Microphone, and "Magnet Mount" antenna plus 12 volt Dc 5A power supply will suffice. Place the Magnet mount on a metal file cabinet inside your house. hook up the Radio Shack 12 volt 3-5 Amp power supply to your 40 channel radio, Say Uniden pro510xl or Cobra 19 plus mini compact about $39 for these types. A $20 Radio Shack magnet mount. Turn on radio an talk. If you live in the city near lots of friends who have one too. You can talk on a private channel like Ch#40 and talk all night. The waves get quieter at night and extend farther into the Ionesphere;conditions are favorable 8pm to 12am. You should talk loudly within 5-7 miles easy. I like friends nearby; who live within 3 miles of me. Don't expect Long Distance with these radios. Unless you buy a big 1000 Watt Rf Linear an Tower 100 ft. with big Antennas costing $10,000. But remember the FCC will knock on your door and may give you 5 years $10,000 fines for anything of Linear amps 1000Watts. Just stick with basic tune and adjust, power mics(Cobra sells best). Talk with friends about fishing, hunting, gardens, tools, cars, women etc. Have Fun!!!

Can a 19 ultra power be turned down to 1 watt? If so where?

Yes it can, but it requires the addition of some components. It isn't really a straight forward install. It needs some reworking. In my opinion, not worth the trouble.

Sounds like you want to run a linear amplifier. If you really want to run an amp, get a better radio to do it. There really is no other reason to lower the dead key that low. Also, 1 watt might be too low. May not drive the amp well.

If you just want to make the radio swing, 1 watt is way way too low. You will have barely any carrier and the radio will sound like ****. That radio stock dead keys 2.5 watts. That's perfect for swing. Now you just need to have more modulation. Find DM1 and unsolder 1 leg and pull it out of the board. Now you will have full modulation. You will deadkey 2.5 and swing to about 15 watts.

If you want to run an amp, get a good radio. If you like cobra, get a cobra 29. They are fairly cheap, and sound amazing. As well it is real easy to lower the dead key in that radio.

Just want to know if i should use my ll203 amp in am or ssb mode when running with a cobra CB radio?

What radio?? Does it have single side band(SSB)? If not, then don't use SSB.

AM - amplitude modulation
SSB - single side band.

If you have SSB, there would be a switch on it to transmit in SSB. If not, it is AM only.

Second, Has this radio been worked on to be able to run on an amp? If not, you will blow the amp.

A CB radio transmits dead keys with 4 watts of power, and transmits with 4 watts of audio.

a 4 watt dead key is too much for a linear amp. You will smoke the transistors. Also, 4 watts of audio is not enough to drive it properly. You won't get full power.

The dead key needs to be around 2 to 2 -1/2 watts,or what ever makes the linear dead key half its peak wattage., and the modulation (audio) turned up all the way.

It doesn't sound like you know too much about CB radio's. Not a big deal, you can learn. For right now you may want to take it to a cb shop and tell them you want a peak and tune, and set up to run a linear.

You can find CB shops usually at truck stops. Some area's they are other places. Check the internet for local shops.

Re: Pyramid PS-36kx power supply buzzer sounded, red light came on

Hi! I saw your question, and maybe this will help. I also have a Texas Star 100w amp, and this same power supply. Even though the nominal draw for your equipment is way below the rated amp flow of the power supply, when you key up, and the output on the amp is at max, you are drawing the limit of your power supply! Try running this setup at a lower linear output. You don't need the full 100 watts to get out! 60-80 watts is aplenty! You should start at a low output, and slowly increase the output(while keyed up), untill the power supply starts to complain.(buzzer/light). This is what your limit will be. The only other cure, is a MUCH bigger power supply. Unfortunately, I cannot afford a 60-90 amp supply, so this is what I am forced to do to use the one we have. Also, keep your cb's output very low when using the linear amp. These amps are supposed to get a low signal from your radio, or the linear amp is overdriven. (noisy and unstable. Hope this helps you! 73's to you! jimsjinx

You just have to lower your RF power so that the radio is putting out about a 2 watt dead key. Any higher and you will over drive the finals and burn out the final

Will 25 amp power supply pull 250-linear?

Yes it could, but... but it also depends on your antenna, what antenna are you using. Do not upgrade the power of your radio unless you know your antenna can handle the output power.

Question about my cobra 200

no need to increase power output. you can take a radio with 100 watts and a radio with 10 watts that had had a modulation kit installed and the 10 watt radio will out talk the 100 watt radio ALL day long. the best thing to do would to put a mod kit in it and have the dead key cut back to 1/2 watt then put as little amp behind it. with those mods it will be loud and clear. hope that helps
