Find utility called 'cdgone'. Download it and save it to desktop. Open device manager, and uninstall the dvd drive, and close the device manager. Run the 'cdgone' utility, and then reboot your computer. Try to burn discs again.
Check if your dvd recorder cq recordersoftware actually accepts all discs for recording. Mine only accepts non-rewritable ones and will spitt out any rewritables... Perhaps this solves your problem?
It could be that the media that you are using is not compatible with the writer. Is the rewriter a DVD +-R drive or just a CD-RW drive? What software are you using to write to the media.
I recommend, you take out the hard drive, put in the other IDE port, presumming is IDE drive, and let the DVD cd rewritable on Cable Select.
Another try, is Start Up on Save mode, and uninstall the drivers for your particular CD/DVD device, and restart your PC, then the system Should install them automatically, or you can do it manually. this should fix your problem.
Good Luck! (presuming you use Windows Xp)
