Hot water heater won't stay lit

MAKE SURE THE BURNER TUBE AND ORIFICES ARE CLEAN. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE PROPER LP PRESSURE.

your thermocouple has gone bad,it is the small copper colored stem wire with a small bulb on the end that you will see positioned in the flame that is connected to the thermostat, it monitors the flame so when the flame goes out it shuts off the gas flow for safety,when they get bad you can light the pilot,but it will go out when you try to turn the knob from pilot to on position,depending on the model,you may possibly be able to replace just the thermocouple,but on most if it has electronic ignition you must replace the sparker (piezo) unit and thermocouple as a unit
