My freezer temp is at 25 degrees...WHY??

I have a French Door GE Refrigerator with the ice maker in the freezer. Noticed the ice was starting to melt and the temperature in the freezer is at 22 degrees. The refrigerator is normally set to 36 is starting to go up, currently at 39 degrees. Is there something I can check, or do I need to call a repairman! Thank You!

Ge bottom freezer not freezing

Check to see that the evaporator is not covered with layer of ice. The latter serves as an insulator and prevents freezer temps from going down to about zero degrees. If the defrost heater/timer is defective that will certainly be a cause. Since the freezer air is not cold enough to freeze, then the refrigerator temps are also high. Using a digital thermometer will confirm this.

Leaking door gaskets can also be responsible for higher internal temps

GE FRENCH DOOR REFRIGERATOR DOES NOT MAKE ICE

First thing to check is if the freezer temperature is going down low enough for the ice maker to work - around 10 degrees. The icemaker thermostat will not activate the mechanism (cam motor) unless this requirement is met.

Ice Melting towards the front of the ice hopper

Check that the fan motor wiring has not been disturbed. If the freezer fan is not working, the fridge will generally start cooling but due to poor air circulation , it will stay colder at the back but will get warmer at the front hence causing the ice to melt. The usual temp for a food compartment is around 4 degrees. The freezer should be -18 degrees celcius.

Ice maker wont make ice

Is water getting into the ice tray of maker? If not check for the water solenoid's proper operation. Is freezer temp at least 10 degrees or less? If not, the ice maker will not work. If ice in tray then perhaps the heater element is not working to melt it a tad ans allow the fingers to pudh the ice out and into the tray.

Ice melting in ice maker

Remove the food from the lower shelves , so the inside rear lower freezer panel can be removed ( only 2 or 4 screws ) .
The # 4 thermistor or # 5 thermistor is bad . # 4 tells the main control board , the temp of the coils , if they need defrosted and when they are thru defrosting . This thermistor is the 1 " long , torpedo looking piece , clipped on the top left of the coils , with 2 white wires going to it . Part number WR55X10025 . It would be advisable to also replace the # 5 thermistor , located at the bottom of the freezer , slightly in front of the drain , also with 2 white wires going to it , slid into a housing . This thermistor , is the freezer thermistor , which tells the control board , the freezer temp and when to cycle off / on , due to temp setting .

GE 25 side by side refrigerator ice maker problem

Assuming the temp inside the freezer is at around 0 or -2 degrees, it should dump ice every ~50 minutes or so. Again, depending on temp's, an Ice Bin should fill within 24 to 48 hours. If your freezer temp is running at around 10 degrees, everything will obviously still be frozen (below 32), but the ice maker will take longer to freeze the water than it would if it were at 0 degrees. Open both doors and place the palm of your hand on the partition between the freezer and Fresh Food compartments... (where the door gaskets seat when they're closed). The temp of the partition should be about 5 or 10 degrees warmer than body temp., If it's hotter than that, you found the problem. Either the condenser coils are dirty and need a good cleaning OR your condenser fan motor (the fan in back, near the floor in the compressor area) is failed or about to fail.
