I don't think you did any damage. It is probably not hooked up properly.
Go back and check all connections and cables.
You may have caused an internal open connection or cold solder joint to quit. Do a little banging on the set with your hand or fist to vibrate it enough to scare a poor connection back to work!
HERE ARE FEW MORE TROUBLESHOOTING STEPS YOU CAN TRY:
ONE: Check the line cord. Wiggle both ends near the molded part.
TWO:Do a hard reset by unpluging all the cords for 4hrs and then plug it back.
THREE:The whacking test is to just bang or smack the set with your hand on the back, side, top, etc., to see if there are loose connections or cold solder joints inside that are acting up. If so, the banging should knock them back to normal and the set should restore. You might have to use some creative banging and some have had to put a book or magazine under one corner to torque the chassis enough to get it to work reliably.
If the problem still persists then like i said before, you will have to get it repaired by a technician.
Please don't forget to rate the solution AS FIXYA.

I have a sony KDF-E60A20 projection tv. The picture would go out for about 30 seconds and come back on. It would continue to cycle this way. The green power light would stay on and not flash. The sound would go off when the picture went out and come back on when the picture came back on. I tried taking the bottom cover off the back exposing the fan and blowed it out with a vacuum cleaner, also taking out the bulb and blowing it out. That didn't help. So I ordered a new bulb from Advancedlamps.com and that's what it was. I have now had it on and off for two days and no problems. Cost of lamp was $107.00 including shipping. Good Luck!

I have Sony KDL-32XBR9 and I have noticed a similar problem. When the picture is showing mostly black, for example during the ending credits of a movie, the TV will further darken the display. Once the picture lightens back up, the TV will adjust the brightness of the display back to normal. I just called Sony customer support and they indicated it was a firmware problem and they will be sending a USB device in the mail to update the firmware. Hope this helps.

Worth a look at above, Hmmm??
Above is your service and repair manual for download.
What is happening is there is an internal "Fault" that is causing the Protection Circuitry , to detect the problem, and attempt to shut down the set. When we keep restarting the set, it may work briefly again, because as soon as it shuts down, the "Faulty" component(s) cool down?, and the "Fault" ostensibly "Clears" so the PSU starts up again, only for the component(s) to heat up, whatever, again and fail, so it shuts down, and if left unattended, this would continue on until the part eventually failed. Any fault that involves the power supply is usually quite serious, and needs a professional, usually, unless one is familiar with servicing current day, televisions.
my professional recommendation, you should get a "Quote" for repair, from, an, Approved Service Center. Now, this point is very important for a good result, Always contact, their "Local" or a, "Head Office" Sony, in your case. Ask them, for a referral to an authorised servicing center, where you ask for a "Quote". Now, when you get the information you want, then you can decide as to repair of replacement.
The reason we want an approved agent, is that way, all the engineers are trained on their own brand sets, they have seen almost all faults, and will get the job done quicker, and for less cost, and usually have parts on hand, also sometimes, there has been a service bulletin in issued and the repair may be subsided or even free. There are many, many, many reasons that display this symptom, one must work through the troubleshooting steps to isolate and identify, the Cause and repair that and any damage done.
