turn your dyson over so you can get to the bottom undo the screw and then you can see the bottom of the clip a gentle tap with with a screw driver blade will knock it out and the other one slips in

if its the part im thinking of its a small spade like catch thats glued into a hole in the chassis normally id lay the machine on its front and gently tap the old catch out with a flat end screwdriver and a small hammer be carefull its very brittle
SOURCE: how do you replace the pre filter catch on a dc07
The pre filter retaining clip is easy to fit, but hard to get the old one out. This is the easy way to do it:-
Turn the machine over, where the bottom of the clip should be is a plate blocking access, it is held in place by a torex headed screw. DO NOT remove this. Instead drill about an 8mm hole through the plastic plate, roughly in the middle level with the large 'A'. This will give you access to the bottom of the clip. Put a flat blade scewdriver through your new access hole and push out the broken clip. It should spring out with a couple of knocks with the palm of your hand. Turn the machine upright and push in the new clip. The hole is not seen and as long as it is a neat job, does not affect the strength of the plate.
Cheers Malc.
SOURCE: the grey pre-filter catch broke and we got a new
Hi Sabine,
You can remove the remaining section of the original catch by levering it out with a very small screwdriver. The new one should then clip into place. If you need any further assistance, please give our Helpline a call free on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US).
Kind regards,
Jack

That part was very hard to pull out.I would drill a hole in the plate next time
Drilling a 8mm (5/16") hole in silver plate behind the pre-filter catch (right at the bottom of the big "B") and tapping remaining piece of catch out from the back is BY FAR the easiest way without disassembling much of the unit. Unscrewing the exhaust pipe assembly as some suggest WILL NOT WORK!
