You need to first unplug the unit. next you need to remove 4 screws that hold the dispenser lid on. next open the door remove 4 screws. remove the door and the out side panel. next located to the top left and right you will see a bracket with a 5/16 bolt remove them and take the bracket off. next lift the lid. you will have access to the door seal. you will see a spring at the top that is the band that holds the seal to the tub. the front of the seal just peels off. when putting the band and spring back on may be a little tricky. get one side up to the top gett a piece of duct tape and secure it. so that you can properly get the rest of the band on without fighting with it. get some vise grips and pull the spring over and attach to the part that is tapped. let me know if this helps or if you need more instructions.

Mold on rubber seal on Maytag front load washer

this was and is still a common problem with maytag and for the most part all front load washers... make sure if your rubber seal has a hole in the ceter for the drain it is clear and not clooged partially... the only solution really is clean it with a cleaning solution to kill mold and then after each cycle try to leave door cracked so that air gets to boot/seal so that it stays dry....
hope this helps.... maytag actually had a lawsuit over the neptunes and now are owned by whirlpool coorporation due to that law suit and a dishwasher they had that would catch fore... servicer for 18 years now good luck to you

I have a Maytag Neptune 1st Generation and the washer door gasket always molds, how to clean and how to prevent molding

The Maytag MAH300AWW was the first generation front load washer. Your MAH5500BWW is a much newer version and has a boot drain and door venting to minimize the mold. Just be sure your drain (bottom center of the boot) is clear. Use a solution of 1/2 cup of Granular Dishwashing Detergant and 1 cup of Chlorine Bleach added directly into the tub. Run the machine through a hot was cycle (with NO clothes inside) every few months and this will reduce or eliminate the mold.

Mold on the seal

on a 5500 you can scrub the seal with bleach and majic eraser. ths should remove it . it was caused by leaving door closed too long and not letting maching dry out . to prevent any front load from having this problem put a hand towel in the door opening . .

PLEASE KKEP IN MIND THAT THE MAYTAG NEPRUNE FRONT LOAD WASHER IS WHAT GOT MAYTAG IN TROUBLE!!!!!!
Whirlpool bought MAYTAG about 3 year ago.

THe mold is because of the rubber boot in the front of the door. PLEASE check to see if the rubber seal has a small hole in the lower bottom of the seal to let small portions of water drain out. If you DO NOT have this small hole, you need to replace the rubber boot with one that has a hole.
NOW, WORD TO THE WISE and this is what I tell ALL FOLKS that have a FRONTLOAD WASHING MACHINE:
AFTER you washer in the washer LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN so that the washer can ventilate and remove any moisture that is within.
ALSO, every 2 months, get a WHITE CLOTH with WARM WATER and a littl;e bit of BLEACH and CLEAN THE RUBBER BOOT!!!!!!

Black mold on washer door seal

this is a very common problem with the neptune washers.
use a javex and hot water solution and scrub the rubber boot.
you should also do an acid wash. (hot wash with bleach, and no clothes) if there is mold on the boot it is inside the washer as well.

There is a way to prevent this. when the washer is not in use, hang a small towl on the washer door, and do not close the door.
this will allow for air movement in the washer

Water won't completely drain from tub. Door seal is very moldy.

Had a simular problem. In my unit the water was not visible in the drum but you could hear it when you turned the drum by hand.  The answer as told to me by the Maytag repair man:  The machine is designed to hold the water after the cycle is complete.  As he was replacing the boot seal he suggested to just leave the door open so the seal will dry out and not mold.  This has been working for the past several years.  No mold has appeared on the new boot seal.

From another source I read that the water is left in the machine for balance.

Maytag front loader washing machine. Mould

How old is the washer? Did you try straight bleach on a towel and placed over the "mold" spot for about 5 minutes, be sure to wear gloves. Then scrub with a small brush being careful not to splatter bleach on yourself and rinse well. May need to replace the seal. I always leave the door cracked open after every use to "dry" out the inside and the boot. I also leave the drawer pulled out when not in use for that area to dry out as well. I have never had mold on the door seal of my Neptune washers, only the water holes above the dispenser drawer.
