Technics 1200 fault where both the 33 & 45 buttons remain lit, the platter spins at super speed, start stop button doesn't work and the red light is not on

There seems to be 2 issues with this unit. Usually when the platter speeds up very quickly, one of the IC (integrated circuits) are faulty and needs to be replaced. However, I've never seen the 33/45 lights come on in addition. So, perhaps the issue started with faulty 33/45 switches, and it then caused a short to one of the IC's.
This will have to be professionally serviced, as it is not an easy fix. There are various circuits on the main board which control the drive, so it's a matter of diagnosing which is the culprit. The 33/45 switches will also need to be tested/replaced.

Sounds like the drive I.C has failed. They cost about £30 each - email me for details.

33 1/3 and 45 RPM Selector;---With these selector you have to choose the playing speed of the platter. Most 12" vinyl records with 1 track need 45 RPM, all others 33 1/3. Although this is no hard rule you could use it as a general guideline.----------
Pitch bend trick when on 33 1/3 RPM:---Some people use a little pitch-bending trick when the 33 1/3 RPM mode is selected. When a track is playing you can hold down the 33 1/3 RPM button and at the same time press the 45 RPM button. The speed will increase to 45 RPM but when you use it with tiny little pushes you can perform an un hearable positive pitch-bend.
------------------------Its quite possible that this buttons are getting jammed, they are not making proper contact.Try spraying contact cleaner spray directly to the side of the button and let it remain there, then press both 33 and 45 buttons few times and see if that makes any difference, but if that is not helping then,it sounds like a short on the pcb, one of the IC's could have gone bad, or the 33/45 have shorted out. -------- So its working on both 33 and 45 speed but not switching from 33 to 45 or from 45 to 33.--------
But first try freeing the 33 to 45 switch button. It must be getting jammed due to dirt or anything blocking it.----------
If that is not helping then try other things,----------
This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

1 If it's a belt turntable - the belt slips off.
2 A power supply problem.
3 A faulty motor.
