Upper Paper Tray light flashing as if not all the way when it is.

I have a Tektronix Phaser 860. The light contniues to flash saying the upper paper tray needs to be replaced but it is sitting in the printer as usual. I found a little plastic piece inside there. not sure where it goes. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Remove the paper tray.

On the right side you will see Three (3) holes
the plastic piece you found when in the bottom hole.

Since it is broken it will no longer snap into place.

Make your self fom either plastic or cardboard, a piece that will cover the bottom hole but not so big that it will block the hole above it.

Then using a good stiff tape (eloectical or duck) paste the piece over the hole, making sure you don't block the hole above it, or any other part of the machine.

I have taken a plastic knife cut to size and superglued it in.

If all else fails you can order that plastic piece that broke from Xerox. It's called a paper size sensor. about $5.00 for the part and about $10.00 for shipping.

Good luck

On the right side of the tray, there are 3 rectangular holes. The "plug" goes in the top hole but, if it came out, it probably won't stay in. I've taped a piece of sheet metal in the hold before to get by. You can buy the part for a few bucks from xerox or inktechnologies. There is a lot of pressure on this plug so it takes something pretty strong to hold.

My Xerox Phaser 6128MFP printer flashes red light after every print out....

First, when you put the paper in the tray make sure the paper holders on the side and back of the tray are positioned against the paper stack but not so much as to be snug.
Next, inside the compartment where the paper try is inserted look for a small plastic piece that hangs below the ceiling of the compartment. It should be near the front of the compartment hanging down and should swing freely backward.
Also, in the printer's paper tray settings make sure that tray is set to that size of paper you are using.

My Xerox Phaser 6128MFP printer flashes a red light with a "Load paper in Tray" message, when the specific paper size and type are already same in the tray.

If the paper size is correct in the printer and the printer and it's possible to print off a test print in both the printer control screen or directly from the print driver utilities if that works then the only thing I can suggest is the item you want to print is defaulted to a different size. i.e. Check that the word processor your using is set to the size you have in the printer. Imperial size pages will look very similar on screen as does the A4. Printers don't automatically fix paper print sizes you just have to check and recheck for differences. Removing the tray only reafirms to the printer that the size might be incorrect and your going to fit the correct size.
As for the red light all printers behave differently in certain error conditions. Have you also tried to print out something you printed at a time the printer was working correctly. In other words try printing out a different file. Maybe, trying to print off a test print of one line of the alphabet, and then go from there.
Good luck,

I have a phaser 860 and it has a paper jam issue. There is no paper jam. I am wondering if the maintenance roller can cause this? It has been sitting around for well over a year and I just started using it...

Most likely if it is not moving the paper out of the tray the rollers will need replaced. You can try cleaning them a few times with soapy cleaner, and alcohol.
Honestly, you could probably pick an entire 860 up on E-bay for cheap for some of the parts, But feed rollers I would get new.
Not sure of a non Xerox source for those. You can try Precision rollers, The Parts Drop, and Xerox phone number to order those parts would be 1-800-835-6100, follow prompts to parts and you can just inquire. They will give you prices and look up what you need with no commitment.

Why is this tekronix 860 printer kept flashing error message saying missing upper tray. However, all trays are intact. It looks like a sensor issue

Tektronix printer paper trays, I seem to recall that there's a plastic key that fits on the right side of the paper tray. It's a little plastic piece that just clips in on the right side of the paper tray. Sounds like it's missing

Have you loaded both trays? The bottom tray and the upper tray ? The one that folds into the machine. Something may be trying to run from tray 1. Upper tray

There is a flag sensor on the registration assembly that is possibly broken.
