It will work with any SD card, 2GB or smaller. It will not work with higher-capacity SDHC cards.

Hey filmoman2008,
If you are really trying to use a micro SD card this camera actually takes normal SD memory cards not micro SD cards.

SOURCE: DMC-FZ7 problems

Have you tried switching the mode dial to a flower icon?

The mode with the flower icon is the macro mode, you can shoot up to 5 cm from the subject.

Also, if you are very close to the subject, then the auto-focus may not function properly if the targeting area is not centered on the subject.

When I shoot macro with my FZ7K, I use manual focus, the auto-focus generally has trouble focusing up close.

I would suggest trying manual focus.

SOURCE: My Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7 will not read memory

It wants you to format the card in the camera. This will erase the card so download any pictures on it first using a card reader if necessart.

Buy an inexpensive card reader to download your pictures to a folder you create on your desktop.

SOURCE: None of my SD cards (I have 4) will work with my panasonic lumix

This camera uses the SD standard - not SD HC.
Be sure you are using a compatible card!
The highest capacity mentioned in the manual is 1GB althought the SD stanard supports up to 4GB.

I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7. The problem is it doesn't read the memory card anymore. It keeps saying, "Memory card error. Please check the card." is there a quick fix to this or is this...

Ok, came accross this problem. After searching and searching, I downloaded the user guide ( who knew?! ) and the reason that is happening is because the Lumix DMC-FZ7 is not able to process an SD card bigger than 2 GB.

I switched it to a 1 GB and camera is back working!!

I hope this helps

I have tried a new sd card for more memory and it reads card error with every new card i try i've tried 3 different cards now and the original still works so i know the reader works but it just doesnt...

You won't be able to use a card larger than about 1GB (maybe 2GB) in this camera. "SD" cards larger than 2GB are actually SDHC cards. SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but they are slightly different electrically. Many cameras won't work with SDHC (high capacity) cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible.

What is the largest size GB SD Card this camera will be able to accept? I just purchased an 8 GB & the camera reads a card error....I am guessing it can not handle an 8 GB...?

The DMC-FZ7 is designed to work with SD cards up to a maximum 2GB capacity (4GB in theory, but very few devices work reliably with the 4GB SD as they simply didn't exist at the time so could not be compatibility tested with most SD devices). You have tried an 8GB SDHC card which the camera is incompatible with.

The SDHC card is the same size and shape as SD but is significantly different "under the hood". SDHC compliant devices can use earlier SD cards, but devices which are not designed to use SDHC cards cannot be updated: the incompatibility lies at the basic hardware level so there is no firmware update to overcome this.

So your guess is correct, but I hope that my reply helps you to understand why. Your fix is therefore to stick with SD cards of a maximum 2GB capacity. As SDHC cards start at a minimum 4GB capacity, you have no risk of buying the wrong model.

I have a 4 and a 8 GB card and both do not work in my cam only the 2GB cards i have do, Help

Due to the FZ7 being developed pre - SDHC it will only support standard SD cards.

SD cards are only usually found in sizes up to 2gb, then with the advent of SDHC (the HC meaning High Capacity) bigger size cards were produced at the cost of backward compatibility.

SDHC was added in the FZ8

I have heard it is/was possible to get a 4gb in standard SD card rather than SDHC, but they are very rare and probaly only available 2nd hand these days.
