Why would automatic sliding door not pop out unless you pull handle?

If you push the remote to open or close the sliding door it will NOT close. It just makes a noise like it tried to pop out, but couldn't. However, if you pull on the handle it will automatically close.

Sometimes the lock on the handle from the interior gets stuck half way in/ out. Check its position. Mine does this periodically and then won't close, keeps opening. Also verify child safety close switch is in correct position.

SOURCE: 2005 Toyota Sienna XLE - Automatic sliding door not closing.

This may or may not work depending on exactly what is wrong with the door, I cant tell what is wrong without looking at it directly however:
You can try starting with all doors closed and unlocked, keys in hand disconnecting the battery and letting the vehicle sit for 2 min or so, then reconnect the battery. Put the key into the ignition and turn it to the on position but do not start the van. Next press the button to disable the power sliding door for the drivers side, then manually open the door fully, wait 5 seconds, then close it manually fully. Press button the button again to re-enable the power sliding door, then try to use it with the automatic feature either by pulling the handle or using your remote, this may or may not work depending on if the door has somehow become de-initialized (it should work now) however if something is broken inside the door closing mechanism or door closed/open sensors, the door will continue to malfunction.

SOURCE: 2005 Toyota Sienna LE Driver Side Power Sliding

Try this... it fixed my problem whereby the 2005 Toyota Sienna passenger sliding door would sometimes open and sometimes not, yet I could hear the motor trying to open/close it. It cost me 20 minutes and 10 drops of oil, not $1200.

First, get the door open. It took me two weeks of constant trying, but it finally opened.

Next, remove the plastic covering of the inside door handle this way: locate the two screws on the forward edge of the sliding door near the child-safety switch: (the switch is a small lever near the door latch, on the forward edge of the door) loosen and remove the two phillips screws, one above the child-safety latch, and one below.

Remove the plastic cover to expose the gears for the door open/close mechanism.

There's a bunch of intricate plastic and metal parts in there, all coated with white grease. I used some 3-n-1 oil to lubricate everything in there thoroughly, In my case, there was one part that was a little void of grease, hence it "stuck" occasionally.

Test the system. If it's Okay, replace the plastic cover, and re-install the screws.

Now my Toyota Sienna 2005 door never fails to open or close.

Try the following procedure to re-initialize the power sliding door:
-the power sliding door on/off switch should be just in front of the
drivers left knee. When in the 'on' position, you can see red around the
button. Turn the system off by pushing in the button so no red is visible.
Now you can close the power sliding door manually if it is open.
-disconnect the negative battery cable for one minute.
-connect the battery cable, go inside the van, and turn the system on (so
the red portion of the button is visible). Wait ten seconds.
-Open the sliding door with the button under the radio. After five
seconds, close it. Repeat twice.

Since it is sticking and groaning you probably also need to clean the tracks and to lubricate the bearings and upper track with lithium grease.

2000 Toyota Sienna power sliding door is jammed shut. Any solution?

Open the inside panel of the door by popping off the little white clips holding it on. The cable connected to the inside release button is either caught on something or has come lose. Check out this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkC2OiOiE_U

Help.... i have just bought a honda accord 2000 with central fob locking. i locked the car with the remote key fob and now the drivers door is stuck, locked shut. all other doors respond from the key fob...

Hi

it could be a number of things stopping it from opening. I cant offer a definate solution but I have some things for you to try.
Firstly get some one to push the car door inwards that is closed position while you press the remote fob on and off, continously trying to push the door and pull the handle if that makes sense, lean in against the door with the door handle in the open/up position, at times the mechanisim within the door can jam up and often putting pressure either way on the door while trying to open and suing the remote can free it off. the thing with these cars and a lot of modern cars is they have "dead locks" which means the car will seal the door completely thinking someone is stealing it. so even the remote fob has trouble at times.

The metal circle thing on the door is where the lock would be if it had one, you should be able to pop that metal cap off to expose the mechanism behind it, howver some of these are blank behind them so you would have to pop it off to see.

Do you have a red key with the car? if so then put this in the ignition to the on postion but not running, then press the remote fob, again this can free the dead lock. failing all these things it could be a failed mechanism, if this happens then it is troublesome to open the door at all, you would have to remove the trim of the inside of the door which is not easy with the door closed, once you dop get it off you can slide you hand in the gap and pull the release rod to open the door.

Hope this helps, I would recommend though if your not savvy with cars to have a garage open the door if you have to remove the trim that is.

Regards and good luck
Dan

I have a 2005 saturn ion, the door won't open

the latch is simple first you got to get the door open though after that there are 4 to 6 screws that need to come out 4 usualy under the door pannel on the inside check the handle that you use to pull the door closed there sometimes is a screw in there afeer that there are plastic pop secrws that just pop out so after teh screws are out pull the bottom of the door pannel and it will pop out some times you will have a screw in the back of the actual inside hanle plastic or you will need to hole the door handle open to slide it off push up on the pannel so it comes free from the window lip unplug the electrial clip that is done by a push tab. take off the plastic its held on by a rubber cylacone there will be a metal rod the goes to the latch with a plastic clip that holds it in place push dow on the clip then pull the rod out un bolt the latch and take it out.
