Hi Ursula B,
You can put baking soda in your washer safely with no harmful effects.
Another good use in your front loader for baking soda.put 1/2 cup of vinegar in your washer soap dispenser, and 2 or 3 tablespoons of baking soda in the fabric softner dispenser and run a hot wash to clean and refresh your washer.

We have a Whirlpool WFS1071BD. We are on tank water (rain water), with resultant poor pressure. We're finding our washing is increasingly smelly (mould?). Is there anything we can do/put through to make it...

epsom salts are the only thing that makes a difference tried all the new gear doesnt work as good as epsom salts every two weeks 1/2 cup on hot wash with no clothes & use cold power advanced washing powder this is the best way of keeping control of it once you get it clean you have to keep on top of it the smell doesnt take long to come back with out continues treatment.

What can I do to keep mold out around the front rubber piece in my washer?

Try leaving the door open when not in use, just enough to let air in. If its a big problem and its because its not being used much then leave a open box of baking soda inside, while not using it. Don't forget to take it out when your going to use it again.

Can you use baking soda in the front loader

I would not do it very often as some of the parts inside are made od aluminium that can be corroded easily. I would stick to the normal products myself.

Clothes and towels don't smell fresh after washing

If you are sure that the pump is not blocked then try running the machine on a quick wash on its own with a little bleach in the drawer.

Clean clothes that smell bad

Peace,
ngafm at your service!
You may have a small amount of water or lint lift in the machine somewhere that is not completely dumping out !
This is sometimes common on front loaders! Or the pump is weak!
I tell my customers to try running the washer without clothes once a week with hot water and a 1/4 cup of bleach!
. BUT the first load you do after this must be white in case there is a drop of bleach left in the system, that it does not spot bleach a white spot on your colored clothes!

If not this does not remedy the situation you will need hands on service!
