It would be better if you went from HDMI on Roku to HDMI on TV. You will get the best possible picture HDMI to HDMI

SOURCE: Router says connected but I can't access the internet

Ok... I see two people here with what appears to be the same issue, however "Guest" seems to have a more specific problem. I want to clear that up first.

To "Guest":
You are confusing your ETHERNET (Wired) connection with the Wireless connection. If it says that "a cable is unplugged" then it is refering to your ETHERNET connection. (Also known as "Local Area Connection" by default.) If you are not going to be connecting your laptop to the router by way of an ethernet cable, then you can actually disable that ethernet port by right-clicking it in the "Network Connections" window and selecting "Disable". (This is how it is done in Windows XP. Windows Vista is a little trickier for some reason.)

If you are showing a strong signal after that, it means that your Wireless adapter is still working correctly. Make a new attempt at connecting to the wireless router by finding the name of your router in the list of available wireless connections and clicking Connect.

If your router's SSID (name) does not show up in that list, then it may be secured as per the default settings. The newer models of the WRT54G router have a button on the front that you can press to temporarily disable wireless security so that you can log onto the router and make your settings. Look on the front of your router for the "CISCO" logo near the front-left. It is illuminated by an orange glow. This is to enable SES or "Secure Easy Setup".

Pressing this button will turn it white and it will probably blink, too. While this light is white, you should be able to find the router on the list. But it will be called something different. It should have random numbers and letters as the router's ID and should show a fairly strong signal.

This is a temporary connection. This gives you enough time to log on to the router and change it's settings before the open connection times out.

To make all of this as easy as possible, I would make sure to do two things:
1.) Use the RESET button on the router to set it back to factory defaults.
2.) Make sure you unplug your cable modem and plug it back in before reconnecting it to your router.
3.) Make sure that you leave all default settings for all network adapters in Windows.
4.) If you have connected your laptop to other wireless networks called "linksys" in the past, it may have the settings of those previous routers in the history that Windows keeps for all wireless connections. You can find that list and CLEAR IT by right-clicking the little icon in the lower-right corner of your Windows task bar and selecting "Open Available Wireless Networks" and finding the list on the left side of the next screen.

I can't advise on much beyond that until I know the results of this procedure. But it sounds like both of you are having the same issue. Here's a tip:

For now, ignore ANYTHING that says, "Local Area Connection". That has NOTHING to do with wireless. That is the WIRED connection. (Ethernet.)

I'll watch here.

SOURCE: Linksys Wireless WRT54G vs. WET54G

For what it is worth, I fhave found streaming video does not function well using a wireless connection. The options of multipale routers will work as long as you configure them as to not have conflicting IP address assignment's via DHCP, and the routers do not have matching IP address's. Never fear all is possible with paticence. BPCS

SOURCE: Can't connect Toshiba laptop to Linksys Wireless Routher!!

HI! I bliv u are having some issue setting up ur router.. I will be more than glad to assist u. here are the steps u need to do:

1. your desktop computer can connect to the internet if u pull up a browser. First we need to access the setup page of the router by typing at the url of the browser:192.168.1.1
2. it will show the setup page of the router. u can set the router on the specific internet setup that u have. since the router us setup already u have the internet connection thru the desktop computer using a wired connection..
3. Look for the wireless settings of the router and create first a ssid or wireless network name then u can as well set the wireless security by selecting wep, wpa, wpa2 then tkip.
4. once your done with the wireless settings, check now the settings for the toshiba laptop computer, some laptop wireless network adapter comes up with a software, I have a dell laptop and I dont use the software for the wireless adapter to connect to wireless, I disable it and use the wireless zero configuration of microsoft windows. u can check the wireless adapter software at the lower right corner of the taskbar, u can disable it by right clicking it and there will be an option to select to disable and sometimes there is an option as well to use the wireless zero config. given u already disable the software and there is no option to use the wireless zero config. u can click on start then run and type services.msc and the services tab will pop up and scroll down to the button of the services and u will see the wireless zero config, just right click on that line and enable it. once its enable it will show a wireless icon on the lower right of the task bar its like a little double computer icon, if it does not show, check on ur laptop maybe the wireless switch is off, the switch is located on the sides of the laptop or on the key area or check on ur manual on how to turn on the wireless switch if u cant locate it. once the icon show, right click it and select on view available wireless network and it will list all available network in range included the wireless network that u created, just select it and connect, then it will ask the password, type the password and connect. u should be connected.. Linksys wireless router has many bugs: connection issues like no connection or constantly having to reset the router. It isn't compatible with many network adapters2.gif. Hope this helps!

SOURCE: WRT54G2 wired desktop fine, can't connect to wireless.

Hi Seth6025,

Try without using Wireless Encryption (password).

Try changing channels; default is 6; try 1 or 11.
Change your SSID: personalize it
SSID broadcast: Enable

Check the advanced wireless settings and make sure MAC filtering - DISABLED.

Reset the Linksys router by pressing RESET for 30 seconds should everything fails and re-configure. Firmware is another consideration BUT this is just a new release.

Regards,

Angel

I'm using using an HDMI / rgb cable to connect our TV to a new Roku3 with luck. What are my options?

Do you mean you bought one of those cheap cables that claims to convert HDMI digital in to analogue with nothing more than a bit of wire? If so, that's your problem. They're a rip off because they don't work.

Post another question and include a link to the make and model of the cable you're using and the TV.

I have a Toshiba tv that is connected to Direct tv and I want to know how to connect my new Phillips dvd player to it my tv?

Flat screens normally have 3 different inputs from tv. Regular is tv coax cable, then audio/picture by using special rca cables, then last HDMI. You can use any of those inputs except hdmi because you already are using that input. You may be able to buy a hdmi splitting device that will allow both the tv and the player to input to the single hdmi input. Check Radio Shack or Wal-Mart.

I have a toshiba satellite p755, it use to be able to hook up to my HD TV with the HDMI chord but now its not connecting..whats the problem?

Make sure all connections Power ,HDMI and any other connecting leads have secure dust free connections also check each lead for any kinks / bends .
Connecting a Toshiba Satellite Laptop to a TV is an ideal way to enjoy videos, photos and other media on the laptop on a much larger screen.
Satellite Laptops can be connected to TVs using VGA, S-Video and even HDMI, though the TV has to have compatible inputs as well.

Connect the RGB cable or S-video cable to an open input on the TV.
Depending on the type of TV, it may or may not have a RGB input.
S-video may have to be used instead.
Connect the 1/4 inch to RCA Y-cable into the TV using the same input as the VGA or S-video cable.
Connect the other end of the VGA or S-video cable and the audio cable into the laptop.
The video ports are on the sides of the laptop.
The audio cable should go into the headphone jack of the laptop.

How do I get the correctly connect from the DVD player to the TV set?

It depends on your TV's available inputs. If your TV has an HDMI port, you'll get the audio and HD video to your set with one cable if you invest in an HDMI cable; purchase the cable online (you don't need to pay $$$$ for the cable). Stores that specialize in cables will have the best picture. Press the HDMI select button on your remote to go through the resolution options for the DVD player. (see page 14 of the manual
If your TV doesn't have an HDMI port, check for component video. This will also give an HD picture to the TV. You'll need cables for the 2 RCA audio and 3 RCA (Red, blue, green) video plugs (or one cable with 5 RCA plugs) on each end of the cable. The mega-cables though can be a bit more difficult to plug in. Make sure that the colors match. (Some TVs use an adapter that consolidate the cable connection at the TV. You still need to match the colors at the adapter.)

If your TV only has composite in, you'll have an SD signal at the TV. This is the cable with one RCA plug (yellow) for video and the 2 RCA plugs (red and white) for audio. This cable is often included with the DVD player.
If your TV only has a coax connection (OTA tuner or analog cable), you'll need a Composite to RF converter. These used to be available at Radio Shack and can still be found online as well.
If some countries, the TV might have a SCART port. You can find a composite to SCART adapter.
The manual is available from Toshiba here: http://support.toshiba.com/support/modelHome?freeText=2805086 . Select the Manuals and Specs tab. The file is a PDF; so you will need Adobe Reader or a similar program to read the file.

I hope this helps. If you need additional assistance, please add a comment with details of your TV.

Cindy Wells
(if your TV has an SD (480i) resolution, you probably only have the composite and coax inputs.)

I have a D52W20. I bought a HDMI cord thinking it was what I need, what is it that I DO need for HD?

To correctly get HD, you need to satisfy three things.

First you need an HD tv.

Second you need an HD signal. IE.. HD cable box, Blu Ray etc..

Last, you need either HDMI wires or Components wires.

Hook the HD box up to the TV with component wires(I believe you tv doesn't have hdmi connections), go to the correct input and enjoy.

How to hook up to hd tv

Use the highest resolution connection your HD TV will allow. This will usually DR570's HDMI connector. Most all digital video devices have one or more. The DR570 has an HDMI OUT. Connect it to any HDMI IN connector on your TV. You will then need to set the TV's Input selection to the Input Number you connected the DR570 to. See your TV Remote or Manual.

The DR570 has three types of output connection options, in order of quality; HDMI, Component(Red/Blu/Grn RCA jacks), S-Video (circular connector), and composite (Red/Wht/Yel, where Yel is video and Red/Wht are left/right stereo audio). Red/Wht RCA Audio jack connections are required to be made on all Output types excepting HDMI.

Note, to get your Digital channels, you will need to toggle the DR570's DTV/TV button. DTV is Digital TV channels. TV is analog channels, the DR570 found on your Cable or Antenna RF input coax, after you have done the Setup/General/Channels/Scan (extended). Scan only finds analog channels. Extended Scan scans for both Analog and Digital channels found active on your Cable/Antenna RF connection.

Note also, the DR570 is not technically and HD receiver. The term High Defintion (HD) is reserved to mean 1080i or p resolution, the highest available. The DR570 is an Extended Definition (ED) 720i or p receiver. It up-converts its ED to fit an a 16:9 HD TV screen. You will hardly notice the difference on your TV, but it is the difference between watching a DVD Movie on a standard DVD player, like this one, as opposed to a full HD player like a Blue Ray.

Cant get our HDMI to work on our JVC HD 58S998.

First, contrary to popular opinion, HDMI cables connect to a tv are not the best way to connect the two. The HDMI technology has flaws that often shows up as sound problems.

If your TV has the capability for component connections, use them. It will take 5 cables, 3 for video and 2 for audio. You will get superior sound and video. The 5 cables terminate in RCA type connectors and are much cheaper than an HDMI cable.

I hope this helps and solves your problem. :-)

I just purchased a Sherwood RD 6513 reciever, I'm trying to connect a hd cable box (motorola dch 3200), dvd player (sony dvp ns710h) and a rca hd tv (l32hd41). I connected hdmi cords from both components...

Hi! I will be more than glad to assist you. I f you are going to hook up your cable box - motorola to the sherwood receiver, connect an hdmi cable to the back of the motorola cable box, there is only 1 hdmi output there, then connect the other end to the sherwood receiver on the hdmi input, then connect another hdmi cable to the hdmi output and the other end goes to your rca hd tv.

for the sony dvp, you have only one hdmi out, connect an hdmi cable to the back of the sony dvp if u have another spare. connect it to the hdmi input of the sherwood receiver. there is only 1 hdmi output at the sherwood, so u need to use a component cable to be connected at the back of the sherwood receiver component output then the other end goes to the component input of the hd tv.

if you dont have anymore hdmi cable to hook up your sony dvp, u can use component cable, the connection will goes like this, connect a component cable on the output of the sony dvp and the other end goes to the sherwood component input then connect another component cable to the component output of the sherwood and the other end goes to the rca hd tv on the component input.

I hope this will solve your concern, if you have any question, u can get in touch..

How do i hook my dvd player to my tv? i have no manual to show me where to plug the wires into the back of my tv.i have a proscan 32LB30Q LCD

Hello pebbles12137,

This depends on what you want to do SD or HD

First if you just want to connect for SD only

Here are Three ways:

1) connect the coaxial cable to the DVD player F-connector (sliver screw connector) and the to the TV's Antenna in F-connector.

2) connect the yellow, red and white RCA connector end wires to the yellow, red, and white RCA Jacks of the TV Yellow (video in), Red (Right Audio in), White (Left Audio in) do the same for the other end into the DVD player (Best SD Method)

3) connect the svideo cable into the s-video socket of the TV and the other end to the s-video socket of the DVD player

For HD, Here are the connection methods:

1) Connect the HDMI cable to the HDMI in of the TV (HDMI1)and the other end of the HDMI cable into the DVD player. (best HD method)

2) connect the Component video cable (RGB) into the RGB sockets of the TV (should be marked as Component 1) and connect the other end to the DVD player (using this method you will have to connect the Red and White audio cables to the audio input jacks of the TV from the audio out of the DVD player)

These are the SD and HD methods.

I would suggest using the HDMI cables only, its the best choice and the simplest.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,
