No matter what programme I select on my Hoover AA Special Edition 1400 HPB145 it seems to want to do the hottest longest wash only. This is getting expensive in shrunken/dyed clothes! On the odd occasion it doesn't boil wash it just does something else equally random and unprogrammed. The machine is around 3 years old.
Is it worth a repair or should I buy new?

if the spring is not on this is a problem due to the tub will bang around and will do more damaged which will end in the washer having to be replaced if the spring is broken then replace this item a.s.a.p peter

the unit is only 18 nmohths old then what you need to do is contact the manufacture and explain to them what is happening and if they are having simuary isssues with that particular moidel number. Possibly they are and you may be able to have it repaired on their dime! 18 months is not that long for a washer to start having these problems if you have not abused the unit by overloading the washer or over filling it with soap. Good Luck
SOURCE: BURNING SMELL COMING FROM MY WASHING MACHINE
if it smells like rubber burning then i would suspect a belt is worn or slipping or somthing has jambed the basket from turning .. the belt is not expensive ..labor of course would be extra .. if the burning smells like insulation or a strong electrical burning smell then you may have a bad motor .. those used to be about $70 + labor .. no telling what they get for them now ...
you mention that the smell came from inside ... do you mean inside where the cloths are (the tub) or inside the cabinet (outside of where the cloths are) ...if the smell was coming from inside the washing tub .. then i would suspect something cought between the inner and outer tubs .. if the smell is not from there then the first suggestions above are good ... bras and slippers and such are good for getting cought .. check where the movable tub (with holes) meets the outer tube (no holes) .thats at the very top of the tub .. ..make sure nothing it cought there ...

If there is water leaking then you need to repalce both bearings and the seal that sits around the drum shaft and protects the bearing. Check the brass collar on the drum support thats sits in the bearing is not worn or grooved. If it is the shaft and/or the drum need replacing too
